I was considering the purchase of a R1 for a film that I've been working on for several years. By the time Epic arrives I hope to have the film finished, but I'm still unsure about the loss I might take if I purchase the R1 now.

Please someone give me their honest opinion. Currently I'm shooting on two hvx200's. What would you do in my situation? What loss will I take?

Thanks,

Jeremy

If you were planning on an EPIC, you shoot the R1 for free...

Honestly, do you need to own any camera? If so, Like Jim said, buy the R1 now and use it. Then when Epic IS available, you can just trade in and pay the difference. If you need to own, buying now is perfect with virtually no waiting period AND you won't be "stuck" later...

Personally, if I could afford it, I'd purchase 5 more R1's right now. And keep them... then a Scarlet to use as my "everywhere camera".

I have a bound with my camera... I think I'll always be a R1 guy.... (of course if I could afford it, I'd be a "total red head" and own "everything"...

I want to get the address of the car shop that gives you a Wiessmann as a loaner...

...and that for the price of a Fiat.

Thanks for your answers. I think the option of putting the purchase price of the red one toward the purchase of a epic is beautiful! Still a few more questions...

Are the accessories that I buy with the red one compatible with the epic?

For the most part, yes. Mike Seymour has a good interview with Ted over at red centre at fxguide.com about the 11/13 announcement. They confirmed that was their plan and it makes sense that they would.

Questions Jim... :)

i could see a price indication for each new brain but what about the accessory? I'm trying to evaluate a rough budget for a decent Epic package... My situation is that i'm getting close to buy a red one package.... When do you plan to talk about the Redone sensor upgrade by the way?

If i buy a second hand Red one body, what do i need to be sure i could have a path for upgrading? Sorry, that's a lot's of questions but i have to take my decision quickly and i will appreciate answer before burning all my saving! :)

thanks!

Buy a RED ONE, then get the full $17,500 towards your EPIC, if you don't upgrade to EPIC, you get a discount to SCARLET, if you want to upgrade and keep your R1 then upgrade the Sensor, many options to feet your individual budget and taste in Cameras.
