  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

FEB Update / IPP2 Preview 2

This is really fantastic. From initial looks (20min after the upgrade and loading of the LUTs), this is a huge step forward. Big thanks to Graeme and everyone over at RED for this development.

Curious and some of my technical knowledge is muddy in this arena -- if we were to use the LUTs Jarred posted for use when grading, will we see a potential lack of quality due to it being a 33pt LUT? Are there 64 or higher pt LUTs available to download? The lions share of my work ends up being pushed through my own system with some tweaking but maybe not a full-on grade (I know, I know, but corporate and volume work sometimes pay the bills). Just curious if we would benefit from a higher pt LUT.

Depends the size of the LUT your grading software uses internally. Your grading software will also scale the LUT to its desired point. If your software uses 33x33x33 then starting with another will re-sample it. Interpolating 33 to 65 is not a bad thing in some situations either.

Did my first Pro Res only job today on a Heluim Weapon as the client wanted 4K pro res. I had the camera set for Graheme's IPP2 preset. What I could not tell the client was the nature of the Pro Res file. Are the Pro res files baked with Redlog or the new Red Wide Gamut log3G10. As a baked file I assume one of these is baked in?

The ProRes file will share the color space and gamma from IPP2, you'll have to add the appropriate LUT in order to match the camera. We used the LUT pack that Jarred posted on this thread earlier today on ProRes files recorded in camera (I used Raw + ProRes).

Rakesh,

OK so just to be clear the ProRes files have the Red Wide Gamut/log3G10 baked in so the IPP2 LUTS are therefore most appropriate ?

I personally prefer the Low Con, Highlight 4 option.
It seems to preserve the highlights and shadows better, thus giving the footage an almost HDR look, though a bit flat-looking.
Also, Low Con, Highlight 4 seems to have the "Nikon look". I can't exactly explain, but that's how my Nikon DSLR renders photos.
Definitely a great starting-point for color-grading.

Hi Brent
I paid a deposit for a Raven in December 2015, so over 13 months ago.
Could I please have a rough estimate as to how long before the camera is likely to be shipped?
Thanks

That is correct Tom.

Is Red wide gamut available for magnesium weapon yet?

To give you an idea of what's possible, this is one of my tests with a bleach bypass effect Creative Cube.

Oh come on Graeme, you can possibly show us this and not give a a little tast of how to get there. I would love another Bleach By LUT or setup in my bag.
Do tell.
Thanks for all the new stuff...I can hardly keep up... seems I just keep doing camera test after camera test with all the new tweaks you keep coming up with. Like the good old days. R1

Glad you like how it looks. That's just a quick example of the possibilities.

Hey Jared and Brent

Saw you guys have added TILTA support? Should we see TITLA product finalizations and announcements soon? I have been waiting...
