  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

FCPX Update

A day late and a dollar short...

At IBC this year FCP was stunning in its absence.

I must have missed it on the FCPX web page, where is the Red Rocket and R3D support? You can get the Beta Kona 3 driver for SDI monitoring now.

Ah.... The update is almost what it should have been when initially released.

Nice to see they have a partial SDK now and at least plug-ins can be made for new file formats. Still lacking interface SDK functions to build support for monitoring and capture cards, integrated support for the Rocket, that sort of thing, but hey, it's getting there... Actually this update came a bit quicker than I expected, I was guessing MacWorld in January for this. Although it's currently incomplete. Maybe we'll have more functionality by then...

At least native R3D support is a possibility now, still up to RED (or someone) to build it.

this is good news

this is good news

I think we all figured that when a MAJOR overhaul of a software takes place like this that there would be significant changes. The reaction given to those changes was a little harsh considering the revolution in terms of EDITING are concerned. Discontinuing and initial communication of FCP 7 aside, it was necessary. I think the reaction time was pretty incredible on Apple's part in reassuring it's customers everything would be ok. The updates came as promised, even quicker than ANY other company could have imagined being able to do. I've enjoyed editing in FCP 7 for a number of years and after a little adjusting time have really liked whats been done in FCX. With todays update, which is just the start, I'm going to be able to finish even more projects now in FCX. In all seriousness, its only been a few short months since its launch. Now we can look forward to R3D support coming from RED, just like they did before with FCP 7. This is only good news and will only get better.

Yep.....i still can't drop an R3d on the timeline mixed with Cannon or Nikon codecs.....I dropped the bomb on Premier last week.....i'm fully integrated with it and moving on....If FCP EVER gets their act together....I'll gladly go between BOTH and use what's best of each via XML.....such as using COLOR at moment....but i don't know how you can beat PP and their native support and mecury engine.....

....now to setup all the other items in my workflow---Matrox & external montitors--while in PP---get to that this week.

Nice update it seems. Seems like early 2012 will also bring back multicam and external monitoring support.

might have to upgrade my tools to make them compatible with the new version. I will post in the foolcut_AE thread once I have tested the new FCPX or updated my script to support it...

I got it up and running, however I can't import any XML files into it??? this is really bugging me

Media stems looks like it is poised to be the new kind of digital deliverable...

Also, being able to actually name audio tracks and send them to audio post will make things a bit easier I think.
Nice.

I cant seem to update mine from Apple Software Update and Apple Store.
Anyone want to share their steps?

I had some problems too, i had to add the old one to the trash and redownload it. Check everything bevore you empty the tresh.
Thanks Elmer that seems to be working. Downloading now :)

I had to trash the old version as well.

The export XML function creates (you cannot export an XML from inside a timeline by the way, have to highlight a project from the project library) files with a .fcpxml extension which nothing but FCP X knows what to do with. Right now I'd really like to be able to export something from X into Color and Color has no idea what a .FCPXML file is. So does that mean I have to wait for Apple to update Color, if they ever do?
