I think they are dreaming that anybody from RED camp will change sides.

I would imagine that rental houses would take advantage of this more than individual Red One owners. The rental house in my town, for example, has 10 R1 bodies, and I believe they've only rented one or two since they've had them. I could see them making the trade for a few.

Abel has both RED One cameras and Panaswonic 3700 cameras for rent. They both are very popular.

Sometimes this forum can slip into a "RED is better than everthing else on the planet" mentality, which is unfortunate. There are many tools out there and each can have a strength and value. The 3700 takes excellent images and I would go out on a limb to state that if the final deliverable was 1920x1080 that in many situations it is the better choice and may deliver superior images.

Horse for courses. No one is forcing you to take the Panasonic deal. Many have. We've sold a number of 3700s during this promotion, and we sold a number of them before it as well.

Unless something has changed, this is old news and you can trade in your old 2/3" betacam or whatever as well rather than a RED1.

Mitch, but this doesn't make any more sense than
the "...RED is better than everything else in the world
mentality" mentality- which is, I believe, too easy a
claim to make to bolster one's own position. Yes, there
can be unbridled enthusiasm at times, but there are fans
on both sides of the fence. And, when you say that there
are "many tools out there and each have a strength and
a value", it would be nice if Panasonic acknowledged this
and used your line in their promo- rather than the 'we're
the best in the world' mentality. Yeah, ad hype, we can't live without it.

Keep in mind that RED one owners can also trade
in their units for the next wave of RED cameras- a very
generous offer too- have you checked out the specs? boy,
I can't see how this would motivate Panny into making a
trade offer for their new camera, at this stage of the game.
Hey Jim, will you accept the (RED traded) Panasonics back
for an EPIC? I'm bad, I know.

Same news. Interesting they do trade ins with other brands.

No, it's marketing, not a joke.

Sure it seems silly that someone would trade in a brand new RED One or a Sony F23 or other such camera toward the Panasonic and that's probably not going to happen. But when they put cameras like that on their trade-in list, it turns heads and gets people talking about it all over the place, just like we're doing here. Now everyone is aware of the trade-in program and Panasonic is giving the discount even if you trade in an old junker betacam camera that's 20 years old. Many broadcasters, studios, etc.. have such cameras in store rooms doing nothing. You can find them on eBay... This is all about selling more cameras. That's it. And when it gets the RED and Sony communities to notice, they will sell a lot more cameras. And we're definitely noticing... This promotion gets posted several times a week here and on other forums by people acting like it's a joke -- effectively free marketing for Panasonic.

Move along, nothing to see here.
