  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

FCPX Update

Thanks Ian... somehow I'd interpreted Apple saying "Import SDK for camera manufacturers" as meaning "Import SDK for camera manufacturers... is *available*." Bah.

Apple marketing and Apple software development people are not on the same page with this one. It's coming... Just not here yet.

On the flip side of things, there was nothing stopping Apple from integrating R3D support right from the start on their end. I was kinda surprised that they didn't -- would have been a great opportunity for them to market FCPX as a professional tool and showcase its performance with larger than HD formats. But I digress... FCPX still reeks of a software that spent less than a year in development (possibly less than 6 months) before its announcement at NAB and not much has transpired since. They had to bring in third parties to flesh out some of the features in the 10.0.1 IBC update... The initial release was nothing more than a "feeler" to see what people wanted. So very much unlike Apple to do that. I'm sure it will evolve into something good, even great. But it's going to take some time if Apple stays on the present course.

I am a few weeks in on (instructor) my Final Cut Pro Ten course.
Yes I am finding it more and more that it's not ready for professional use at its current stage.
However as an editorial (were talking blood guts not fancy compositing) app, its pretty bang on from my POV :)
Makes you think that its best to stick to putting together clips at this current version.
Hoping they upgrade it to the same level as legacy within a year.

I'll give credit that the underlying engine in FCPX is great, very zippy and eats through footage. The interface and usage of the thing...puke...I want a Final Cut Pro 8, a real one. All they really needed to do was rewrite the current form into 64bit and tweak under the hood. Completely discontinuing FCP and giving us X was a joke and a slap in the face.

Yep.

This discussion has been going on for months.

Some like, some hate.

Some feel ripped off. Disrespected.

It's pretty over now.
