  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC-S (old Scarlet S35) update...

This is great. If it stays within 12k, really looking forward it.

I know its been challenging and at times it must have seemed pretty elusive, but you did it, You and your Team, and I thank you for committing to this program when, let's face it, you didn't have to. I really do appreciate your dedication and leadership on this.

While the dumbasses at Harvard might not have wanted to hear your story, I certainly do. Your professional career holds many lessons and I'd really like to hear about that journey. You are about to deliver a product I've dreamed about my entire professional life, and you did it when no one else thought it was possible. For that reason alone, I really need to know the nuts and bolts of how and when.

You are an American Business success story of the first order and your biography will inspire many more after you. I really hope you can find some time to devote to this, I think its important. This isn't about stoking your ego, I genuinely believe there is actionable insight in what you have to share.

Thanks for the update, Jim. I am so stoked for this camera!!!

I'm with Jeff. +2

Once you have shot 5K at 96fps (or 2.35:1 at 120fps), it is hard to go back.

Jim

I know this probably isn't the thread for it Jim, and i don't know of the technical difficulties behind this question/request...but it would be a very very nice thing if EPIC could push to 5K at 100fps or 2.35 at 125fps. It would be that little bit nicer for all your customers in 25fps land:)

My $500 F3 deposit definitely puts me in Abel's first shipment allocation of F3s. But is the EPIC-S price estimate and delivery estimate stay anywhere near what Jim posted today, I have to seriously consider it. The F3 package at $18,500 with 3 lenses is nearly ready to shoot and quite a bargain it seems.

I'm real interested to see if RED comes up with some kind of similar bundle with all the needed parts and bits.

Not possible... no matter what we do, someone will want more.

By similar bundle, I assume you mean a camera around the same price with lenses but one that doesn't shoot RAW but rather an RGB compressed codec instead? And less frame rates? And a plastic body? And no HDR motion mode?

If you are happy with the F3's limitations, you should buy it. Just don't be disturbed when EPIC-S is released and you have already spent your money on something that doesn't have all you are looking for. What they are offering could certainly be "good enough" for some people...

Jim

Jim, thanks for the announcements, the world suddenly makes a bit more sense today! The schedules seem pretty sound, something to prepare for. Nice one!

Cheers,

Eric

Given the competitive landscape, we think that the EPIC-S will have no price/performance competition. Think 5K, REDCODE RAW, HDRx™, record to SSD, modular system, size of a Hasselblad with many mature professional workflow options.

So Jim, it wil be 5K capable or not??

So, just to be clear. I get a camera @5k, up from 4.5k. Possibly similar frame rates, HDRX, fraction of the size/weight, touch screen menus, touch screen focussing, Nikon, Canon and, eventually, Red electronic mounts and capabilities - so many other features my brain can't remember, all for $13k less than a Red One M-X. Yep. Yep, Yes! This has just made my fucking year! Thank you Jim!
