  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC-S (old Scarlet S35) update...

Now the trick for me is just finding someone willing to sell there beloved MX camera.

At the beginning there was a prevision of about 50 Epic-M produced. Does any one know how many Epic-M will be actually produced before launching the Epic-X line?

Thanks

Pat

No one knows... including us. It depends on how many parts and pieces we can round up. We have plenty of orders.

Any reasonable budget project will want EPIC-X so they don't have to think about the constraints.

So true, but l work as a small team on very tight budgets but offer the clients a lot for there money, so the Epic S is the right tool for my in house camera, need higher then just hire an X, as far as l can see, perfection with this solution.

Money saved and ready for my Epic S

Sony is a good company and l will still keep my EX1r but the F3 already looks a dog compared to Epic S re specs, they will need to up there specs or discount the F3 by 50 % even then Epic S still wins hands down.

And being able to choose less compression for shots with high detail is a major thing. Epic-S sounds like an amazing bargin - but I'll take as many Ms + Xs and I can get.
When I first heard about the Epic S, I considered buying that instead of going Stage 3 with my remaining R-1. Then Mark got the 00006 Epic M and posted, and I decided the Epic X is just too much of a good deal to pass up.

I still marvel at the cost/performance ratio. I believe the camera could have easily been priced at the same price point as the Epic M. Now it sounds like the Epic S is also most favorably priced, but still doesn't reach the value of the Epic X... IMO.

The only thing I wonder is how Epic S will be allocated? Will it only be sold off the shelf (as in first come, first served) or has that been determined?

Thinking about it, it's not like they can mass produce like Sony or Panasonic. The chips they are using are state of the art. Being a smaller company I'm sure it takes Red a long time to get these chips produced or order (From whatever part of the space time continuum they are coming from.)

Thank You for that Mate!
Happy New Year 2011!
Sorry for outburst in my yesterday's post.

$3750 for 2/3", $12000+ for Epic-S...seems like there's room for something between these two...

Prices havent been known for some time, but I thought it was $5750 the last time I heard.

What's the release price of the Epic Brain only?

there will be...used non-MXed and MX-ed RED ONES will undoubtedly drop below the EPIC-S, when it is released and you'll be able to buy a lot of camera for the buck, at that point. still an amazing imaging system.

Jim,
Happy new year to you!

So if full ramp up will be around NAB, do you envision that Stage 4 EPIC, will be available around June?

Thanks for all your work.

Steve

If any of you ever want the challenge of your life... build an electronic camera. And make sure it has better specs than anything ever on the market. Then put it in a box smaller than anyone deems sane.

wish I had the money to throw at that challenge. But there again, your so good at what you and your team do, why bother ;-)

How can one get in line for one of those May produced epic-s? I want one so bad. Also hoping our red one gets to epic-x around then as well.

Jim - Thanks for the great information about the Epic timeline. I certainly hope to move up to Epic-S over time but I will definitely start my RED ownership with a Scarlet Fixed. (I love the fact that my Scarlet modules will work with the Epic, allowing me an easier path upward.)

So, a couple of questions, if I might: can you give us any new info on the Scarlet 2/3 cameras? Where are you in setting up that production line? Will it be in the US or have you found a supplier overseas yet? Originally, you said the Fixed was first, then the 2/3" interchangeable (before the Scarlet S35/now Epic-S). Is that still true and, if so, can we interpolate delivery dates as starting some time this Spring (pre-NAB)? I respect that you no longer want to "think out loud" in this forum but would love to hear anything about the Scarlets that you feel comfortable posting.

And Happy New Year!!

Scarlet will have its own thread...
