  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC-S (old Scarlet S35) update...

This great news for shooters, terrible news for Sony.

This is going to be one fantastic camera. Thanks for the update Jim.

If any of you ever want the challenge of your life... build an electronic camera. And make sure it has better specs than anything ever on the market. Then put it in a box smaller than anyone deems sane.

Jim
Why would I want to do that? It's already been done!

Hey Jim, thanks for the update. I'm getting married June 11th and would love to have an epic by then for my dp to shoot with. :)

Red ftw!

Good news. Firming up to be a great release.

Given the recent theft from Mark, has it ever been put on the table to include some form of GPS tracking. It has been wildly embraced by Apple on regards to the 'find my phone' abilities. Maybe it could be considered?

Then again, you've probably packed it with too many goodies already to find the space!

By similar bundle, I assume you mean a camera around the same price with lenses but one that doesn't shoot RAW but rather an RGB compressed codec instead? And less frame rates? And a plastic body? And no HDR motion mode?

If you are happy with the F3's limitations, you should buy it. Just don't be disturbed when EPIC-S is released and you have already spent your money on something that doesn't have all you are looking for. What they are offering could certainly be "good enough" for some people...

Jim

I think he simply feels that, with a $12k base price, you might be able to make an operational EPIC-S system for about $20k. Admittedly with one zoom instead of three primes, but a functioning system that included LCD monitor/mounting rails/SSD adapter/etc.

I'm curious to know that, too. I have tried to put rough numbers together, but everything is in so much flux I really don't know whether it can be done or not, or whether you might wind up discounting EPIC-S kits enough so it could happen.

If you can, he sure looks dumb buying that Sony for $18k, no?

And if you can, a lot of Scarlet Fixed users might wind up upgrading to EPIC. Which I'm sure you would like :).

Hallelujah! If that's a working kit for $20,000 this thing will destroy the competition - now if only it comes out in production for mere mortals (non-Red owners) in less than 6 months...I won't have to buy a Sony F3 for the jobs I have coming up - and I wont regret it later haha...then again, I guess I could just rent Red in the meantime.

Awesome Awesome Awesome, gonna be an epic summer.

Hey Jim congrats on all your progress, the New Year will be exciting for Red. While your so nice to give out the good news, any word on the Fixed Lens Scarlet?

he's said there's going to be a separate thread on that. they generally seem to try to time out their big announcements, so i wouldn't expect two in one day... that gets overwhelming for them and us, trying to discuss different things at once. but i could be wrong, keep your eyes open.

Thanks so much for the update Jim. I've been saving for a camera like this for years and I can't wait for the Epic-S. Just let me know where to send the money :)
Thanks,
Matt

Great ! But it will be good for us to know more about a budget for a production ready package? Also is a DSLR lens mount is going to be available in the same time for us who are unlucky enought not to shoot with Pl lens?
Sound a little expansive for my budget but i can't deny the spec... Still waiting to know more about the competition, canon especially, to see what will be the best reasonable investisement , the video landscape is changing really fast at the moment...

Now , let's say all the actual Epic S is going to happen like this, what will be the best lens setup to investigate now? if budget is consider off course...
