  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Epic Q&A

Haven't had time to do an exhaustive search, but is there a grid of Epic's current maximum varispeed framerates versus redcode setting and resolution/aspect ratio with the different SSDs anywhere? Doesn't seem to be one in the ops manual like the Red One had.

And to echo Dustin above, would especially like to match Red One's 4K, 3K and 2K 16:9 FOV framing modes - what framerates can we get with those at Redcode 36 equivalent compression?

Also, being in PAL land, very interested in framerates at multiples of 25 for those flicker, rolling bar issues with 50Hz location practical lighting.

Thanks!
Thanks John, but I don't have an Epic to play with, and the manual doesn't seem to cover my question directly.

What I would like is to choose a FOV, resolution, aspect ratio, redcode to match a Red MX at 4K, 3K and 2K 16:9, and then know what's the maximum framerate (multiple of 25) at that setting.

The Red One operation manual has a handy table covering varispeed options at various resolutions, redcodes etc.

Bump

Hi all,

Just flipping through settings on the EPIC M today. Is there any chance in future firmware releases that we could see framing modes that mirror the MX based cameras? For matching purposes, it would be a nice feature for a 2 camera setup.

thanks,

Dustin Bowlin

4k HD mode is the closest to what you are asking for.

Just compiled this, which you may find handy ;) http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?62183

16:9 5K would be really nice for work that sometimes does't have the post workflow for extensive re-framing. Sometimes you don't use the rawpower of red, and shoot something and render it directly to 16:9 Proress 422 1920x1080, and the end product finishes in that format.so a true 16:9 format would be good to have.

Is 5k FF (full frame) resolution 5120 (h) x 2700 (v)? If so, it is not very far from 16x9 aspect ratio. Perhaps it can be masked out when shooting, and than cropped precisely in the post. Composition is everything.

I apologize if this has been asked, but I do not see this question.

Is playback coming anytime soon to the Epic?

I LOVED using it, but really wished I had playback...

According to Jim on 8-22: "It is coming."

There was noise issue in early EPIC footage that was uploaded to internet. It was some short night footage of a guy walking around and it had some wierd non moving noise in it. Was this issue solved?

Simple question: is it possible to use the Ethernet connexion on the EPIC to transfer the .R3D rushes once recorded on the SSD (in case a RedStation is unavailable), or is it only for remote control / proxies / firmware updates? Thank you!
