  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Epic Q&A

I thought I read that HD SDI is a full bayer output.

Cheers, Tim
I've asked this question in several threads along with several other people and sent a PM to someone at RED. I think a lot of people would love to know this information, considering how recording to a KiPro or PIX system is becoming a dailies and even master recording solution for some. Maybe I missed the answer somewhere on the forum!!!

it's a full debayer.

According to Jim on 8-22: "It is coming."
:biggrin: You mean that we can find the information in the "According to Jim" sitcom, season eight, episode 22, titled "It is coming".. It's such a pity since the the series stopped at episode 12..
I know now why ABC killed the series, so we may not get that valuable information.. Does ABC owns any of RED (Epic) Competitors??:biggrin:

There has been conflicting information on this front. Jarred posted a firm "no" a few weeks ago, stating that RED Drive owners could trade in for a 50% credit towards SSDs. That said, Ted has been quoted in an interview at NAB a few days ago stating that RED Drives would be usable with an adapter cable. Awaiting clarification.

So, 6 months later, would you know what is the policy now ?
Can we use Reddrives with Epic X ?

"Reddrives do not and will not work with Epic or Scarlet. They only work with Red One cameras." Ken Willinger

Thank you, is this official news from RED or a personal opinion ?
And then what about the: "Jarred posted a firm "no" a few weeks ago, stating that RED Drive owners could trade in for a 50% credit towards SSDs."
Would someone know ?
Thanks again

Hey all,

I have 2 questions for you. 1-is there a way to maximize the LCD image to show full screen like the R1 did? 2- I noticed when we first shot with our Epic the SSD % was on all the time, now its faded to almost nothing until it gets to like 35% left on cards. Was that a setting I touched by accident? I didn't read anything about both these questions in the manual.

Thanks
Spike

I have seen ths question posted several times but have not seen an answer. Is a 16x9 ratio 5k R3D record coming? I Would dearly love to see a format that took full advantage of the sensors height with a small crop on the sides. Should be easy as there is less pixels than 5K FF? I need to give clients footage in an industry standard format and so dont want to use 4K.

Can you use the Red One DC plug to power the Epic or will it fry it?

What about the Red Brick would that not work either

please forgive the semi-double post, but this is particularly relevant... using red bricks and the red one ac power adapter with 1B-2B cable:

from what stuart english said at the link below, you can indeed use the 1B-2B cable on the ac power supply, but depending on which version you have (100w vs 150w), it may not be able to provide enough power. in the case of the 150 watt, you are good - but with the 100w - he does mention "Feel free to try it, but we can't recommend it - especially if you plan to add a PRO I/O to your configuration later on."
