  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

There are a lot of questions and answers spread out around different threads in different forums. With a handful of active forum members having taken delivery of their cameras, it'll be good to get them all in one spot.

It is extremely important to remember how early the firmware we're talking about is. The discussion here isn't about camera capabilities, bugs or limitations... it's just a glimpse at what is here today. People should be very careful not to read something here as "the way it is".

Fire at will. :)

Wow, this is a great/very generous thread. Thanks!

My question: Although it may seem insignificant to some, I've been very curious about the menu system/touchscreen. What are your initial impressions?

This is gonna be a heavily used thread, great idea and thanks! :D Gonna b bookmarked for sure

wondering about battery life with a RED Volt versus the RED Brick on the EPIC?

I've been really quite happy with the new UI. I was using the engineering interface for so long that when it first came out I felt like I had to relearn everything. About 15 minutes later and I was a pro.

Think of it as something new, not just an evolution of the R1.

I haven't had much time with the RV batteries. The ones that I've used were prototypes so I'll leave this question alone for now.

Does the redmote have a wired capability or only wireless?

Is it possible to turn off fans for record mode?

Yes it is, and it can be either set on Auto, or Manual Mode, to what ever percentage you wish to from when you
are in stand by or Recording modes, depending on temperatures you are recording in ;)

Does the redmote have a wired capability or only wireless?

Yes it does function both when Docked on camera or Off camera, love the Redmote ;)

what's the (currently) best way to process EPIC footage into AVID or FCP files for offline?

what is the processing time as a ratio to realtime?

are rockets being used for this?

thanks brook!

RCX is my tool of choice. I'm seeing realtime debayering [or at least very close to realtime?] with a rocket.

Can you do HDR in 2k. If so, how many frames can you achieve?

Unknown at this time, but since HDR is essentially capturing twice as many frames as usual... I speculate that the max HDR frame rate in 2K will be half of the max non-HDR frame rate in 2K.

I think I asked before, but has anyone determined the maximum reliable range for the RedMote? Measured, as opposed to paper specs...

May be very relevant to my application...

Mike

Frame delay on live output of HDSDI? Single or dual link HDSDI for 1080p live output?

Seconded on the wired functionality of the RedMote ... can it be attached to the camera via a cable of some sort? I'm thinking back room during tethered production too far off cam for reliable wireless.

I feel that it'd be premature to make any definitive statements about the range of the REDmote. How much range are you hoping for?

Have you used the Canon EOS mount? And if so, what were your impressions with the auto focus?
