Steve Gibby
Red Savant
I know this is Brook's Q&A thread so I'll apologize in advance.
I couldn't agree with Gibby more. An ergonomically designed smart handgrip that can ride out front for hand held or on the tripod handle would be a terrific addition to our favorite next generation camera system. The RED side handle is wonderful but not exactly the right beast for all needs.
FWIW the idea of a handle that rides out front on the right like a B4 zoom grip with a zoom rocker, rec/stop and such seems like a winner to me.
Now, back to Brook and all the EPIC NEWS!
Thanks Blair...we're definitely on agreement about that. In the Red productions you and me have shot together such a smart handgrip/servozoom unit would have been a major plus - and now with Epic and Scarlet here, the utility of such a unit is even greater still.
Also, if you re-red Brook's thread opening post, his concept of this Q&A thread was for all Epic M owners to be able to answer Epic questions on this thread. Here's what he posted: "With a handful of active forum members having taken delivery of their cameras, it'll be good to get them all in one spot."
So he intended this to be a central thread for all Epic M owners to answer questions Red User members may have about using Epic in the real world. I think that's a great idea, thus I've been answering questions here and posting my ideas. Each Epic owner comes from different backgrounds, shooting style, and genre experience - thus each can answer questions that relate to their style and the genres they service.
BTW - me, Ketch, Pam, and Joseph all visited Brook this afternoon on the set of Spiderman. Cool setup Brook...way cool! Peter Collister ASC, the 2nd Unit DP invited us to Spiderman weeks ago and we finally made it there. Thanks Peter...it was great meeting you and comparing notes on Epic
Before going to Spiderman, we were at ET learning about the features of our new ET Atom 3D rigs, then we stopped by Red Studios and visited with Ted and others. Jim and Jarred were at Spiderman while we were at Red - when we got to Spiderman we had just missed them.
Fun day!
