  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC-2, The Weapon, The Scarlet-W and the Raven and the improvements that they bring.

We've included the accelerometer data for about 6 months now and its been increased in accuracy over the last few builds. David finchers guys use mocha I believe to use it for stabilization, all that info is sitting on the metadata ready for some smart coder to come along and use however they want :)

This is really great to hear. Jarred, is this data being implanted across the whole new camera lineup, or only certain units? Curious if the Raven footage will also contain this metadata.

Does anyone have the answer to this? I'm super curious...

Thanks for that link... I was digging for info and never saw that. Appreciate it.

Though it's interesting that the chart indicates that the Raven is capable of 300fps at 2K, while the product website spec sheet indicates 240fps. I wonder which is correct.

According to the page, 300fps is for 2K widescreen (2048x864) while the 240fps limit is for 2048x1080, so there's the tradeoff.

For those new to the RED world, generally speaking the Y resolution (height) is the factor that dictates the maximum frames per second. You'll notice things like FF and HD commonly have the same top speed or when formats that have the same vertical resolution of another format have the same frame rates.

As a guy who spends days and nights to work on CNC/PCB/FPGA/CAD/WhateverItTakesToBuildAProduct, this kind of thread is awesome! It makes you feel so small but so motivated.

Can't wait to own one of theses light DSMC2 bodys. Thanks Jarred for sharing!

During this Christmas week any news or hints from Jarred would be considered as a Xmas gift! :p

According to the copy on the web site...

"We will also be offering a cable-less WC V-Mount (Weapon) and WC Gold Mount (Weapon) that provides power to the camera via the 13 pin pogo connector on the back. This will be available as a user installable upgrade. "

While I don't expect it will be free, it will at least be available to buyers of that unit. I suppose an inquiry as to upgrade cost might be a good idea before buying.

I just got an email from Holly at WOODnCAMERA...

"The cable-less power module will be finished in a few weeks. We recommend using the original Epic power plate that you might already own with the new Quick Back (Weapon) and then purchase the cable-less version when it is ready. It will be a stand alone plate that will have a module that users can install. This new battery plate will likely be $399 and also require the Quick Back (Weapon)."

I paid $249 for the weapon quick back plate (although I'm still waiting for my CF Weapon CF body), and will likely get this new AB cable-less power plate for $399. That's about $250 cheaper than the setup from Element, and it appears to be lower profile. It will be interesting to see hands-on when it ships.

I gotta give it to the wooden camera guys.. they did a good job with their Weapon accessories.

I think it is time to bury that animosity and start embracing their efforts...

Good on you Jarred. I like the sound of that.

Ryan and his group at WC are good people. They have the same "whatever it takes" attitude toward customer service that RED has. I love both companies and would like nothing better than to see you guys kiss and make up!

Great news. At IBC I picked up a bunch of Pag v mounts, but had no way to mount them to my Dragon, W.C. Ryan came through with their V mount. Nice guy. Showed me all their Weapon stuff, tried to steal the Weapon from your booth to try it all out but Kristin caught me.

Good news and good move to keep a strong accessory ecosystem around RED cameras... Right in time with the growing DSMC2 family :-)
