  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC-2, The Weapon, The Scarlet-W and the Raven and the improvements that they bring.

Having the ports (HDMI, power and SDI) on the side as opposed to underneath is SO MUCH BETTER. I am not sure how many have had the pleasure of trying to remove an SDI cable from EPIC. :)

The XL module with battery is a nice counter balance to the lens. I really like the low profile of the XL batteries and I get decent run times. The new Anton Bauer Cine batteries look similar. The XL module is also a charger.

Stacy,

I've been trying to figure out my battery strategy for Weopon. VLocks seem so high on the body, and agree the form factor of the XLs seem right for the camera. How do the XL run times compare with Vlock batts like say an IDX or Blue Shape?

M

IDX are solid but tend to take longer to charge... blue shape uses a different chemistry(manganese or something) that ensures longer battery life, but doesn't last as long per charge as IDX

Problem is neither IDX or XL offer long use potential in 4.8V.
Sure, if you're into gimbals and/or like to change your batteries all the time then XLs (90ish Wh) or IDX (highest is 146Wh at 4.8V) are fine.

blueshape has a sweet 266Wh at 4.8V, but its about $900 a brick!

XLs do look sexy though, but the problems I hear about the chargers and the lifespan of the batteries themselves is a concern to me.
And frankly, I want to set and forget by batteries for at least 3 hours.

Haha - longstanding "disagreement" between w00dencamera and RED means that every time you post their name here it is replaced with an "x". LOL

I think creating a tinyURL will work.

Really? Wow. There are a lot of politics at play in this business… Well, I guess every business…
I was just posting a link to their Goldmount battery back for the weapon. I wish red would do the base expander with GM but I hear it's not going to happen. The one from element seems bulky.

Updated with tinyURL. Hopefully that works… Without pissing off too many people.

I am not totally sure that any human at RED cares anymore (to be sure, I can't speak for them). But, the software stays in place and the name is perhaps destined to be banned forever. LOL

Keep in mind that this has no electronics and requires a battery mount plate that plugs into the AC port. The element technica version attaches directly to the cameras electronics.
The description says they have a cableless upgrade on the way. That's the part that interests me. And I like the tool-free design.

Good find Jeff! I do like the EVF Lemo cable the created... Nice low profile option.

Will the new anton bauer cine series fit on the new DSMC2 V-lock expander? I like the low profile -especially for our underwater housings but just in general as well.

The Cine series is about exactly the same height as the expander but I didn't know if there is something too big side to side.

PS In reading about it, it seems that Anton Bauer says it was made for cameras like the F55 and Red cameras so presumably it should fit. They come in 90 and 150 watt-hour capacities.

Any confirmation would be helpful.

Yup they do have that in the works. I just didn't want you to think that $249 version got the updated design

According to the copy on the web site...

"We will also be offering a cable-less WC V-Mount (Weapon) and WC Gold Mount (Weapon) that provides power to the camera via the 13 pin pogo connector on the back. This will be available as a user installable upgrade. "

While I don't expect it will be free, it will at least be available to buyers of that unit. I suppose an inquiry as to upgrade cost might be a good idea before buying.
