  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Please make sure to black shade all Dragon Cameras after upgrade.

Any increase in speeds/compression/all that jazz?

You're not saying that this Side SSD module also does Pro Res are you? I doubt it...

I have no idea what you are talking about since the MiniMag isn't going to be released till the end of the year, but If I were to guess:

No PRORES.. we still believe in a RAW workflow and that isn't going to change anytime soon.

Speeds increased.. so much so the readers are now 6G. Which aids in lower compression on camera, and much quicker offloading. Pretty nice since the cards are now half the size.
 
I think I'll just stick with my existing $10 000 investment in cards + $1500 for SSD module rather than plow even more money into an unknown advantage, but hey, thanks.

If this means Red is now going to sell media for dirt cheap, well, that's really going to hurt the people who invested real $$ and are still trying to amortize it. Red BT $3500 were already a punch in the face, as was the Epic price drop, please don't do yet one more thing to make people who buy rather than rent Red gear feel like complete idiots for doing so.

Those who say "It's all about your talent/passion.etc." for God's sake I can make the exact same projects with rented gear, so I don't see the relevance, and if you do see relevance, you should take a basic business accounting class.

Those who say I should be happy because now students/poor people etc. can have easier access I think I'd like to pick which charities I give to, not have Red force my hand The bad investment I made in Red Epic gear (which is almost impossible to rent or even to get on projects - price drop has meant way too many Epics around and base price affects rental price) has made it difficult for me to give to such worthy causes as the United College Fund, breast cancer research, and other causes I feel more worthy of my giving away money to than no-budget filmmakers.

Anyway, maybe this rant is for nothing…. If so, sorry.

First. Mind blown and very impressive. 1TB is something people are going to want for sure.

Can we get a little hint of what the MiniMag can do other than providing 512GB and 1TB support? Redcode compression ratio improvements perhaps? So many questions.

Quicker offloading of larger cards is going to be very welcome for large productions.
 
Is that a 512gb MiniMag AND a 1TB MiniMag or a standard 1TB RedMag?

Any guesses as to how they will compare price-wise to the current SSDs? :)

Hey Robert.. why don't you tell us how you really feel :)

You are looking at this backwards. This is an upgrade... just like it was when we went from CF to SSD on the RED ONE. We are doing this without forcing you to buy a new camera..

Media is technology driven.. we are not doing this to screw you or any of your business sense buddies. We are offering an optional solution to get faster media at a smaller size.

And Business sense.. Good business sense ( for RED ) would be for us to spring this on you the day they were available and shipping. Instead.. I am giving everyone a heads up a month in advance who is about to buy media etc. as to avoid the " next day " dissapointment. That is obviously not in our best interest.. as sales for media will drop from now until then.
 
Would love to know more info on the mini mags. Are there more then just the 512 and 1tb?

Jarred - any price drops on current media planned once the mini's hit - or is the current pricing structure staying?
