Birger Lens Mount Reservations

Is there a fast EF compatible/adaptable ultra wide to fill out the Canon fast primes set- 36mm f1.4L, 50mm 1.2L, 85mm 1.2 and the widest which is 24mm 1.4L. Is there a fast manual stills lens that could be mounted via adaptor to the Canon EF/Birger.
The most extensive Canon lenses list is here:

Thanks Gordon,

I was aware that there wasn't fast Canon W Angle but hadn't until recently seen it as a problem - now I'm wondering if the only solution is to get a cine lens rehoused for Canon - I hope not.

80% of the installation videos were shot today. I plan to tie them up and shoot the collimation video tomorrow afternoon. The I do the overview / Operation, and editing begins.

All in all things are good over here.. Finally glad to be moving forward

Jay

I'm glad things are moving forward on your end, Jay.. I am really looking forward to the videos. At least someone is feeling the love from Erik these days.

I only wish your videos had some direct correlation to the mounts shipping. Unfortunately, if I've learned anything from this thread, it's that my gut probably isn't far off the mark in telling me that your videos are going to end up acting as a pacifier, and we'll see mounts delayed another 2 months, after being told "2 more weeks".

I've emailed Erik, with no reply yet, voicing my concerns that the Birger mount is quickly losing its value in consideration of the upcoming release of the DSMC line, making the Birger obsolete for those planning to trade in their RED ONEs. I'm truely excited by the prospect of using my Canon glass on my RED ONE, and everything else that the Birger/ViewFactor relationship has to offer, but as the clock ticks away, each day delayed is another day of lost revenue toward the Birger purchase, as there will be fewer and few days left to utilize it on my RED ONE.

The light I saw at the end of the tunnel back in December... just keeps getting dimmer and dimmer. It's too dark to tell for sure, but I feel like we're moving backwards.

I'm hoping your videos will redirect my pessimism toward a positive outcome, and that my gut will be wrong in seeing it as the proverbial Nuk.

Maybe order a dumb mount for now. It's kept my sanity.

With some machining to rehouse the electronics, I think the Birger mount could be moved to the Epic body.

But I can't even upgrade to Epic without first paying off my RedOne, and to pay it off I need it to work, and for it to work I need the Birger mount. Additionally frustrating is the fact that my RedOne warranty is nearing expiration, and without a lens I can't run it through the proper tests to make sure it's behaving properly. I'd get a Nikon setup but I can't afford it. If Erik doesn't ship this month, I'm SOL. So as much as I like to hear that there are installation videos, those videos aren't pacifying me at all. I want that mount shipped already!

Kyle as I understand it, Birgers are shipping.. The the Impero that has a small wait.. And it's due to a needed upgraded before it goes out. Check out that thread. Everyone seems to agree

Jay

I have a Nikon Red Dumb mount that I'll sell half price. But then again it'll really suck to get it and then get your fed ex tracking number the same day. But then again it'll really suck to continue waiting for... :)

That was my understanding as well, but like others, I have yet to see any comments from individuals who have actually received theirs (except for Frazier and a handful of others who I can count on a single hand).

I am well aware of the Impero situation, which in itself is unfortunate, but it is what it is. The reality of the situation however, is that the Impero will continue to hold its usefulness after the upgrade to Epic, by simply buying a VF Motor or two. My guess is, while the Birger could be retooled for the Epic, it may not be cost effective to do so. Additionally, with RED hinting at their own Canon mount, it maybe be even more irrelevant.

I know this sounds really pessimistic, and you're probably just thinking, "well, cancel your order then." But, I really, REALLY WANT the Birger for the next 4-8 months that I wait for Epic. I have some nice Canon lenses, and I intend to buy some more Canon glass once I have the Birger. I REALLY WANT my Birger.. I just can't, in good (financial) conscience, wait much longer for it.

Erik is a great guy.. We've had an occasional good heart-to-heart on the phone. I want him to succeed. I believe in the quality of his product. But, particularly in these financial times, I have fiscal responsibilities that preclude my desire to hold out to the bitter end.

Anyway, I'm hoping something will happen soon, so I can piss or get off the pot.

Kyle, when did you order your birger mount? (and the funny thing is, or maybe not so funny, not only do i have to ask what month, i have to ask what year. :) )

oh, so you're even before me. it's a blur for me too... i think i ordered in jan of 08. and andy's dumb mount is not an option for you? if i ever get the birger mount, i'll consider as a good emergency back up. i can always upgrade it too.

At this point, I'm teetering between Mount/No Mount. I'm not interested at all in a dumb mount.

Its one thing to have a client opt for Canon glass for the sake of saving a few hundred dollars a day on lens rentals, but in a rental market, I can't ask clients to pack their own Canon SLR (or mine), and explain to them how to set the f-stop. Not to mention the additional time spent fucking with lenses and holding up production, because someone has to stop down a third.

If I was shooting time-lapse, or 'real-world' stock, where it was just me and my gear, I'd think about it. But most of my production work in on features, doco's or commercials. I can't even imagine trying to do a doco on a dumb mount, yet the doco's are generally the ones asking for the Birger.

i see. totally makes sense. maybe the new red primes will be about the same cost as Canon L primes. (not!). well, i'm sure i'll hear when you get your mount and then i'll be soon after... hopefully. good luck. :)

I have tried for the first time my Canon 10-22 on the Birger mount. It won't come off. The release button does not move and the lens does not want to come off. It went on the right way matching the white marks and clicked in place.

Any advice from people who have this lens and mount?

I have installed the 16-35 with no problems at all but this if the next lens I am trying.

I have not tried the 70-200 and the 24-105 but will when I get this bugger off.
