  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

2. Something that I've found useful for timelapse work has been opening camera raw files in After Effects with camera raw settings applied to them. Since Adobe Camera Raw supports 16bit Tiff files do you think we'll see the added functionality of importing a .TIF sequence with ACR settings applied as well?

Also, 16bit .TIF and Camera Raw support in Premeire would be wonderful.

Confirmed that 16bit .tif import is fixed in Premiere Pro CC

Hey Dave, while you're here (and forgive me if this has been answered already, as I haven't read this whole thread), will Red Importing be native in Premiere CC? As in, will the necessary codec/plugin be installed by default, so that we don't have to hunt it down on the Adobe site, install it, check that it works, and repeat every time there is a Premiere update? The Adobe updater pings me all the time about Raw importer updates for still images, I'm hoping it'll work the same for R3D (and other video footage) soon. Like, yesterday-soon.

I certainly look forward to a new test of this with the next project, which is currently in pre-production.
As my productions (edit-wise) are small, I'm open to give it another shot. (Certainly this time in comparison, the CC thing made me thinking if I went too far into a dependency with one single company. Thanks for the wake-up call!)

Thanks as well for going through the waves here. I think many of us (?) are sitting on the fence currently, and holding the balance on the fence is not always a simple task. You might excuse this as an exception: Thanks.
I hope there will be an alternative to the Cloud-Concept, it doesn't seem a well thought through idea to me. I have a lot of content that is covered with NDA agreements, so any Cloud based "leak" would be a disaster, in other words, "no cloud - no web" connection to production Macs here.

The latest red suff is native in CC. i..e Red Color 3 and monochrome support.

Dave - thanks for the answer. This at least means being able to keep old (current ATM) CS6 (with Labs support) and have CC (aka CS7) via monthly cloud subscription. Is there a way to save a project into an older file format... I'm sure you see where I'm going here :)

It seems Adobe AAMEE tool can be used to allow a machine using CC software to be licenced with out it needing to licence via internet. In our case this would be essential for non internet conected machines in a facility or a stand alone machine that is in a remote location for many months.

Please can you confirm if the AAMEE tool is suitable for use int his way and how easy it is to set up.

This is important to me as well. I know of two different post shops (30-40 workstations between them) that, for corporate security reasons, are not allowed to connect to the internet from their workstations.

The Adobe pricing policy has been contentious for quite a while. Two years ago I got pretty pissed off with being ripped off for paying for the identical product, coming off the same server. I contacted the Australian Government (Department of Foreign Affairs) in regard to what exactly the Free Trade Agreement with the USA stands for. I'm sure I wasn't the only person who went down this route, but just recently the Australian Government launched an inquiry into the prices being charged by Apple, Microsoft and Adobe to Australian citizens. The 3 companies have been ordered to attend this inquiry. Adobe has since changed the prices charged in Australia to be much more in line with US prices. My suggestion- look into your own Governments Trade Agreements with the US.
 
at the end of the day, if this new pricing strategy is so enormously compelling and amazing, why force everyone? if it's so perfect for everyone's needs, then we'll all doubtlessly migrate to the new program automatically, right? we'd be stupid not to; it's that amazing, right?

no, it's not. what once cost me ~$300 - $400 every 18 months or so will now cost me $600 a year. if i decide to stay in this industry, adobe gets a permanent draw on my bank account monthly.

not only that, but i HAVE to pay. forever. forever, and ever, and ever

that is the end of it for me. if this remains unreversed, i'm gone.

the real pisser is how much of an advocate i've been for adobe since switching. what a complete waste.

never thought i'd be looking at the FCPX feature list again. jesus.
