Thanks Brook/VF. My battery plate just arrived. And it is built like a tank.

Also just received! I had one question. I just installed it, and with the little washers, there is a few mm space between the plate and the body. It didn't look so in the examples on this thread, there it looked like it fitted right on and would protect the module connectors. Now there is some space to gather dust there, did i do something wrong, or is there a reason for this? thnx!

The washers are there to ensure that the shoulder screws are at the appropriate depth to connect the battery plate properly. The depth of the module attachment points on the back of the Epic seem to vary slightly from camera to camera, so we added a washer to make the attachment consistent and secure.

If you want a more flush fit you can bypass the washers, but depending on the depth of the module attachment point threading on your camera body, you may have to shorten the shoulder screws slightly.

thanks, just installed it without the washers, fits good, but then you have to trial and error a few times how deep the screws have to be, but its locking tight and fitting great now!

Any ETA on the AB version?

I just received my VF battery plate. Although it looks very well built, there is at least one design flaw. Unless I'm mistaken, it's totally unusable with RED top handle facing backwards, when the handle is attached to a swat rail attached directly to the camera. Although Curt indicated that the handle "just clears", I feel this was misleading. Yes, the handle 'clears' the battery plate, but no, you can't have a battery in it and use the top handle because it will not clear the battery...at least not with my set up (see photo). Perhaps with a top plate the VF battery plate will work the way it should, but I can't confirm this because I don't have one yet (I'm waiting impatiently for my Tactical top plate). I feel, however, that I shouldn't have to put a top plate on the camera in order to use VF's battery plate with such 'standard equipment' as the Top handle.

@Jean: get a FMJ Top Plate or a Woodencamera Top Plate instead of waiting for the Red Plate, and i swear to you, if you put it on once, you´ll never take it off again :)

Calling it a design flaw in my eyes in unfair, with all the Rails, Handles and other Accessories available and still to come, there will be a tons of possibilities but also some setups that just won't work.

We probably could have been more clear regarding the top handle, I apologize. Unfortunatley there is only one place the battery could go on the back and we had to decide between blocking the power input connector or protruding upward above the camera. If it will not work with your setup then you can certainly return it for a full refund.

From Jean's photo, it looks like the bottom of the battery plate is a few mm lower than the bottom of the battery itself, and that if the mount was altered so that the battery moved down those few mm, the top handle might juuuust clear without blocking the I/O panel.

I dunno, that's just based on one photo, but could be worth checking.

With the all the mounting solutions as well as batteries on the market we felt the design was the happy medium. There will never be a one solution fits all product be it the battery plate, handles or any other product for that matter.

I imagine it might clear if you put a Top cheese plate on first?

Curt?

Looking at the picture I am wondering if you turned the swat handle around to face forwards and then swapped the grip to face backwards again if this would give you a few more mm to clear the back of the battery?

Great job! I just received my APU battery plate today, excellent design- sturdy, compact, fits like a glove!
Also received my Bottom plate with 15mm rod bracket, love the "Danger: Jet Intake" nothing better then the combo of good design and sense of humor :)
