Eli, Red has their backpack and quickplate batttery that use the same mounting holes as we do. Since there is no limitation noted on their product page for 5lb batteries then I'd expect that you will have no problems with 5lb batteries on our plate.
Generally screws are stronger in shear than in tension so in the worst case scenario here is a quick calculation: 5 pounds / 4 bolts = 1.25 pounds tensile load per screw. In ideal situations M4 fasteners can withstand upwards of several hundred pounds in tension so I think you will be OK.

DAMN Curt, let me have 10% of your math skills.

Alright folks, here's the REDmote adapter:

The first picture is what it'll look like when it's done, the lower pictures are of our prototypes!

As you can tell, it works from the P-tap connector on the battery plate or on your battery itself.

Input is 8-16VDC, output is 5V@2A [which is the same current as the iPad charger... meaning it charges fast]

We've tested it to work with the REDmote, iPhone, iPad, iPod... and drink cooler.

We're finishing up testing and prototyping now, they should be available around December 20th. Price and details coming soon, but don't worry, it'll be fair. I think it's the sort of thing that every AC out there is going to want in his or her bag. Who doesn't want to charge their Phone from the camera, honestly? :)

this is awesome! thank you! and not to mention dual purpose. i wonder how long a brick would power a tablet, convenient regardless. I will need this for my redmote setup, shuttle piece on the side of cage. very cool stuff.

I want one ! What a great idea/product.

Keep us posted please as to price and availability.

Great idea ! How about some P-Tap doublers while you're at it, we're gonna need more than just one P-Tap to power everything we need, even more so if we start charging our phones from the camera... ;)

Don't worry Nils, there are many other power distribution options coming...
WANT.

Brook, you keep pumping out ideas like this, and I may end up giving more money to you than to Red in the long-run.

:) Thanks! Curt really deserves the credit here... he managed to squeeze an awesome board into a tiny, tiny space. The use of this little guy goes way beyond just a REDmote... I think everybody who sees one is going to want one in their camera bag.

Actually, I've been thinking about making one of these for a while - just never got around to it. This looks great. You're going to sell a ton of these :-)

Thanks Brook, good to know :)
BTW, has anybody tried powering a Bartech FF with M-One motor from the P-Tap on an Epic ? I never got it to work on my Red-One, it made the camera very unstable... Or is 50W still not enough ?

I don't think the SCARLET is any different than the EPIC in this regard, but... just got mine in (both the APU IDX plate and my SCARLET-X). When mounting the battery plate to the camera, I literally had to smack the hell out of it to get the lockbar to pop out. Presumably this will loosen up with time, but... just thought I'd share for anyone else wondering how theirs is fitting.

Waiting on the batteries so haven't had a chance to test it properly but it's very well made...
