  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Trost Slider GROUP BUY - limited time

Wow! As this group buy comes to a close (officially 2 units remain), I'm going to kindly ask those that haven't placed an order yet, please do so soon as the fine folks at Trost can get started with assembling all the orders. Thanks again for all your support!

Is there any way to connect multiple sliders to get greater than 100cm of travel?

ETA: Nevermind...just saw that connecting sliders is not currently supported.

Alan, I can't speak for Trost, but looking at how the slider works, I'm not sure how smooth the damping/brake mechanism would move over the slightest crack at the joint. That is, if there was a solution to attach more together.

You could *almost* pull this off. If you detached the endcaps and spanned the gap with a collar, you could connect two (or more) rails. But there would still be a "cla-clunk" as you crossed over the joint. So no, we don't support the functionality of connecting rails at this time.

Gabe: So what about a longer rail only then? say a 5' rail option? This is what i would like to have as well....thanks.

While I fill the need for many for a 5' slider, I think that for more then one reason, and of course one been that of my extensive travels, I would much prefer and most welcome a future "ACCESSORY" piece that would link flawlessly one Slider to the other, so to create a needed length at will with say 100+100 or 100+75 or 100+50 and so on, were given the super strength stability of the Trost sliders and their design with the solid mounting points, it would make for an impressive composition, were with several legs one could build anything with no limitation and yet have a super portable 1 Meter length bag.

I also agree that having options and ability to build out to longer slider is just a great example of thinking forward and accommodating many needs. Small and light is nice, but building a kit as described with modular ability to go longer just makes great sense and sure does cover the DSLR to Cine range of buyers. As much as i would be fine with buying the 5' slider....i'd MUCH prefer modular capability to extend as needed....I realize there are engineering challenges---but you are hearing it from us here what we would like to have.....and there seems to be a market for it.....just and added vote for thinking forward on how to overcome the engineering challenge you obviously face. Thanks for listening....

Email sent! Thanks Bob, looking forward to using these in the new year!

Ciao Ketch!

Haven't we seen this concept, in practice, before, albeit without the robustness of the Trost pieces?

Thank oyu very much

Some great ideas here. I will say that this slider solves the most important hurdle I face with many sliders.... smooth tracking. A meter length for much of my cases is more than enough. Anything longer I tend to lay track on the ground because it usually means a faster tracking shot. Which would be hard to do on a slider because you have to also move your feet. A meter is nice when you just have to plant your feet and slide with your arms. Even the 50cm just attached to the slider is great to do macro level of tracking. But I understand the need to have more flexibility and a little future proofing but I feel it would sacrifice the best part of this slider and thats rigidity.

One small suggestion is perhaps adding adjustable all-terrain feet attached via the collar. I can see many applications of this when 2 tripods/stands just aren't accessible. The baseplate is great for flat surfaces but I can see it becoming a problem on uneven ground.

OK folks!

This Group Buy is now officially over. We hit our mark in record time. I hope all 30 people that committed to the group buy that were sent a discount code will order today. I would hate to see people miss out otherwise. If there are any concerns please contact us immediately. Thanks again to Gabe and the team at Trost for letting me do this for the Reduser community. I have no doubt you will be impressed with the slider. Trost are busy researching some new accessories for the collars based on feedback here.

Thanks,

Bob

We're very close to being able to provide this, although we don't support it currently - we'll do some investigation in the next couple days. This is really useful to hear!

We've done some experiments with this. We've had great luck with the Induro Hi Hats - they're reasonably priced and make awesome all-terrain legs.

This Group Buy is now officially over.

Thank you everybody! I can't tell you how great it's been to get this welcome, and some really practical ideas for how to improve the system. Feel free to contact me with any questions or ideas. For now, we're off to go build you guys some sliders...
