  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Trost Slider GROUP BUY - limited time

Thanks Gabe! Have a wonderful New Years. And that goes to all the Redusers too!

Thanks Bob and like wise to you, Gabe and al my fellow Reduser... ;)

And thanks again for the Group Buy to you, Gabe and every one at Trost, my Producer Fabius Rubio from Barcelona also ordered the 100+50 combo!!

Ciao Ketch!

Haven't we seen this concept, in practice, before, albeit without the robustness of the Trost pieces?

Thank you very much

Fury

Ciao Fury,

yes we have but none of the sliders I have worked with, including the Kessler line, had the kind of build quality and incredible strength as the TROST sider, so I have suggested because I firmly believe that this time with this particular product and the attention given to the details of the built of this units, it will work very well, it just needs to be tough out carefully at both joints and have an integrated double needed connecting points as to extremely firmly joint the two pieces again and again as needed, with a Support bracket also fixed at each joint point, additionally to those already included in the sliders itself.

When, not if, because I see already how Gabe and the Team at TROST are listening and working and their motivation to bring innovation and the best product to the end user, "US" they'll succeed on this, and once they do, the only thing that would truly make this the absolute best overall slider out there would be a second accessory for a Belt and a strong enough motor with precision positioning and pulling to pull no less then 50kg in Horizontal mode and 25kg in inclined vertical mode, and that is it, TROST would become N.1 above all, not a doubt in my mind about it!!

Ketch -

We're very close to being able to provide this, although we don't support it currently - we'll do some investigation in the next couple days. This is really useful to hear!

Great to hear Gabe!!

Looking forward to receive the sliders and put them to work to further intercommunicate with you guys and assist in any way I can with input such as this, and or the possibility of adding Motorization to the unit as well as other small details.

I simply love the slider design and build choice of material, I was going to build a Slider thru Tolicorp Technologies... Now there is no need for it, you guys have done it for me and I don't think I can make a better product once you are done bringing out possible accessories for it... So... Well done and a Happy New Year to you and the team at TROST!!

Bob, your review of this product is exceptional! Nice work, but honestly... from you? What else would we expect? ;) I appreciate your putting this group buy together with Gabe and Derek. Thank you so much.

I do have a suggestion:

In watching some of the videos on the Trost site, this thing truly is magical. I have an idea for Gabe and Derek... It seems as though the baseplates only have an 'indention' for a light stand/C-stand. Is it possible to have a screw mechanism added to 'lock' that light stand in place? I realize the unit weighs 15lbs itself, but when I'm placing thousands and thousands of dollars on top of this, I'd feel more secure knowing that my secondary support stand isn't going anywhere.

Curt, to secure a c-stand you just need to attach this to the bottom of the baseplate. The baseplate has 1/4" and 3/8" threads.

Bob,

Thinking along the same lines, I can envision both 5/8" and junior pin male adapters with a 3/8 threaded stud to fasten to the underside of the baseplate. That would make for some interesting and secure stand rigging - especially rolling stands…
Of course, those should be accessories.

Just so there is no confusion, when using the 5/8" adapter for a C-stand, I still recommend attaching the other end to a tripod. I have not tested using 2 C-stand only but my guess is that it would not be safe using the second axis on a RED with only 2 C-Stands.

Better words cannot be expressed and it cannot be stated enough times! I would go even further and not ever consider 2 C-Stands on a single axis. Asking for trouble.
The folks at MYT have expressed the same - a C-Stand is not to be considered for a primary support - that's what the tripod is for...

What I was thinking of is a takeoff from a part made by Modern Studio. It consists of a Junior Pin fastened to a bar with two 1-1/4" speed rail compatible clamps.

Makes it easy to build a 10' + long run for a wheeled slider… (Of course, supports below as needed)

Drop the 1-1/8" pin into the receiver on a Matthews low boy junior (386021) and you have plenty of support at either end. Wheel base is over 36" and those stands are rated for over 55 lbs.

If there was an accessory that allowed a junior pin to be attached to the Trost baseplate via one of the 3/8" threaded holes, a more robust support could be obtained over a C-Stand.
I'd still have a tripod on the other side...

What kind of case does this combo come with? Suitable for high volume air travel? Total weight with case for the combo?

Hey John. No specific case from Trost at the moment. There are a few recommendations in this thread though.

Following up on our email exchange for the benefit of folks here. As Bob pointed out, there are 3/8 holes on the bottom of the baseplates on the slider. So you can mount via c-stand + 3/8 adapter and fix it securely that way.

However, if you screw your c-stand adapter into the baseplate via 3/8, the slider will always be locked in a horizontal orientation. The reason we also included the concave wells for c-stands is so that you can operate at an incline if you want. Also, being able to just drop it onto a c-stand also helps to make setups quicker, because you don't have to fiddle around trying to get the 3/8 adapter + slider perfectly perpendicular so the threads match up.

Note that we do not recommend supporting the slider with just 2 c-stands. A tripod + c-stand is ideal, and a single tripod can work with lighter rigs.

So basically, what Bob said (as usual...!)

That's a good idea, and I don't think it would be all that hard to do. But... with a decent tripod + something like a half ball to 3/8 adapter supporting one side of the Trost, and a c-stand on the other side, it's extremely stable. The nice thing is that half ball has almost no flex, so all you're asking the c-stand to provide is vertical support.

That said, "stability" is in the eye of the beholder to some extent, and I could see your junior pin concept making a lot of sense in certain situations.

Bob, you slick little devil! Where did you get that? That's thinking outside the box!

I spoke with Gabe last night... he said the reason they DON'T offer that is so the op can set the slider at angles! If you lock down the C-stand...then you can't use declines and such!

I've used this style for my Dana Dolly for years! Mike Hall made something extremely similar in the beginning. Now they use a clam shell design that allows the op to use different sized pipe, I have both sets, but use these more often than the clam shell, because these fit in my case! I also use the Mathews Low Boy Combo stands and bought the wheel accessory paks. GREAT way to 'slide' the slider around all day, with no energy exertion!

Gabe, Trost's level of customer service is incredible! The fact that you reached out to me on a national holiday speaks volumes! I appreciate the exchange.

I in no way would ever consider using just two C-stands! I've just used other 'sliders' and when I couldn't secure the stands, it was a bit tricky. I would more than likely use the same Mathews Low Boy Combos I currently use for my Dana Dolly on that second support spot!

I can't tell you how excited I am to be a part of this group buy and how I'm counting the days until delivery! This is a COOL product! Thanks for your support in our community!

...

+1 on this Curt... After closely watching the evolution of the Trost slider I finally decided to contact them directly, happy that I didn't had yet closed a deal for our Sponsorship for the Slider with an other brand, and I got a response in that same afternoon...

I was truly impressed by what I was seeing coming along with the Trost slider that I didn't want to fogey to write to them, so I did on that Sunday, never, I mean never expecting a Sunday of a Holiday of Christmas reply, yet I got it...

Today first day of work for some, again, a conclusive email form Gabe...

All I can say is that this start of Service oriented attitude if it is anything of what is to come form the Trost team, then I know I'll never have a problem getting replied to or any of my questions answered.

Way to go Gabe and team!!

Any more info in the case it travels with? Is it robust to withstand high repetition air travel? How about the total weight for the combo unit?
