  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Trost Slider GROUP BUY - limited time

Thank you, Curt and Ketch. Your support and ideas here on reduser are what will allow us to continue improving and developing the system. For instance, based on everyone's feedback here, we are going to move forward with 75mm and 100mm bowl support next, as well as look at Mitchell.

To touch on the big picture for a moment, we believe that camera motion is a beautiful (and under-appreciated) art form, and that is what motivates our design and approach. You guys understand this better than anyone, so your thoughts and experience will inform our future direction. We are very grateful for it!

Any more info in the case it travels with? Is it robust to withstand high repetition air travel? How about the total weight for the combo unit?

Case options and robustness have been discussed earlier in the thread, but a note regarding air travel: You'll probably want to transport the slider in its own case. One of our field testers told us that his case was tagged and opened by TSA when he was traveling with the slider, and TSA threw his gear back in the case in a haphazard way, causing some cosmetic scratches. I don't think it's specific to our slider, but just something I thought I'd mention.

As for the weight of the 2-axis 100x50 unit: It's 23lbs.

Damn! I'm disappointed I missed this, but definitely intend to pick one up (or, hopefully there is another GB in the near future!)

Great review, Bob.

Balls! can't believe I missed this. any chance they can "expand" the group buy list? I'm sure a lot of us still want to get in on this. Looks like a solid product.

I have a contact at Omega Cases in LA... they built my AWESOME Cabrio cases and then later started selling them as a stock product. We can have some made. I know they'll give us a deal if we get several at the same time... I'll check into it!

Their light duty poly cases look like they could work well. You shouldn't need a super heavy case - just something to protect from scratches and dings. We ship out the sliders in a simple cardboard box with folded cardboard inserts (no foam peanuts!), and they do great. There aren't really any protruding components that will snap if you drop it, and the male 3/8 folds down into the top carriage puck, so it won't poke through the case.

We've got to take care of the folks in the group buy first, so we'll have our hands full for some weeks.

For now all I can say is THANKS Gabe and Trost Team for becoming one of our Corporate Sponsors and make the impossible possible by providing us with one of your only two sliders, and while the 50cm piece is on its way the 100cm has just arrived...

At first glance of the physical quality of the built and the absolute great precision of the slider I can tell that we'll have lots of fun shooting with it, and can't wait to share the results and our first detail review of it...

Btw, all our BTS and Reviews of the gear including this one will be in 4k as well... ;)

Quick iPhone shot... ;)
