Epic W Helium 8k WS at 150fps with 3200 clean ISO? :D

Which will render a potential Epic-W impossible to upgrade to from Epic MX owners, so no, this isn't gonna be Epic W it's gonna be Weapon Helium, upgradable for those with a MG and up. I doubt it will be available for Scarlet-W owners, since it's gonna rival the 8K VVs.

This will probably be an upgrade as the upgrade was between Epic MX and Epic Dragon. You send in your camera and they put in the sensor, costing around $9500 as an upgrade. My only concern is if the s35 8K is what it's gonna be for 6K owners since the 6K sensor size is larger than S35. Will we get a Helium sensor that has the size of the Dragon 6K? Meaning 9 or 10K for 8K delivery?

6K is 6144 x 3160 @
30.7mm x 15.8mm
8K is 8192 x 4320 @ 29.9mm x 15.7mm (Assumes same resolution and aspect ratio as 8K VV)

So Helium is ~1mm smaller in both directions. If they made a VV version it would be around 11220 x 5916, so 11kish? (est based on current 8K VV size)

Today I shoot at 6K HD and plan to shoot 8K HD in the future, just about the same sensor size:

6K HD is 5568 x 3132 @ 27.8mm x 15.7mm
8K HD is 7680 x 4320 @ 28.0mm x 15.7mm

The fall date is still good.. I may of not done a very good job of emphasizing how much the new sensor lines will help with that. It's our biggest bottleneck right now.

This is the most telling piece of info for me. My largest worry is getting out of the fall territory for new orders...I think that really helps understand what's going on with the queue. Thanks for the update!

Scarlet-W to Epic-W upgrade ?
Come on guys, enjoy your camera now. And wait for what will come. I mean there are guys with fs700 gear that are still shooting good stuff. So be happy you have a RED and just make cool stuff.

I wish for a 4/3 Helium sensor for "real" 4k x2 anamorphic.

Now can Helium really be better than Dragon with this kind of pixel pitch? Better in Iso noise, Colors ,Smearing, DR... When will the first pictures be released?
I'm happy with the 6k s35 number of pixels. I'm not sure I will jump in the 8k bandwagon (for now) ;-)

PS: Things are moving to fast in RED's world. ASC just got out of Millennium DXL party and it's allready "old" cutting edge tech! LOL

As many of you might have noticed our new Helium 3.65 micron pixel is complete and ahead of schedule... WAY ahead of schedule.

Helium's first sensor is the 8K s35 build on a completely new sensor line and will be available to Weapon customers in the coming months. (Or the coming weeks for those that know where to look)

Now I need to figure out where to look. So so interested in the Helium.

Thanks Jarred.

Sounds to me that the Helium is an easier to produce sensor, capable of taking care of most of the 8K upgrade needs.
Smaller microns size usually means a bit more noise and a bit less photographic feel, but higher specs for resolution. Is that the case here? Or is it an improvement overall from the wonderful dragon?

I guess most likely we will just have to wait. I am waiting to understand what the Epic-W will be before I commit to that or Weapon.

I appreciate the update! From the way this update sounds, Scarlet-W and Raven won't be shipping in numbers until after helium is launched, ordered, and into production in high enough numbers that the dragon lines are freed up. Not trying to be a downer, but that sounds like a lot of stuff that needs to happen before Scarlet-Ws can get shipping. But at the same time, if sensors are the bottleneck, I'm curious what was different about March/April/May? Seemed like there was lots of cameras shipping then, and now not so many.

This is all fantastic news....so much goodness going on right now. However, I have been waiting on my Scarlet-W since December 10th, and still don't have a very good idea of when it might ship. Even though Jarred didn't give us any news on that front in this update, I assume what he told us in the last update still holds true. Which means some of us Scarlet-W guys will get our cameras before the end of this month? Anyway, looks like the blokes and gals in Irvine are killing it right now. I would like to be a fly on the wall in the board room at Arri....

I'd like to go on record that I would be happy to be the first person to place a Helium deposit ;)

Jarred,
If I really want S35 8K (Helium), should I continue with my Dragon 8K VV upgrade, or cancel that and move to a Helium wait list? Maybe Helium is so far away that VV might be a good place to be in the meantime. Or maybe 8K VV Dragon might take even longer than Helium...

Thanks for the great work at Red. You guys never stop pulling rabbits out of hats.

This has probably been answered a gillion times, but what happens to those previously Weapon sensors when they are replaced by 8K Helium? Can you put one of those into my Scarlet-W?

Will it be possible to upgrade the sensor in the Scarlet-W at any point? I hope so because that's a significant reason I bought into RED.

If the upgrade price is around the same as when we went from MX to Dragon, $9500, then I'm also interested. But if it's going to be like $15000 that's probably not gonna be reasonable for MG owners.

Thank you Jarred, awesome news and some very interesting hints. :) Congratulations on Helium, getting it out early must feel truly awesome... Huge achievements behind the scenes i'm sure. Can't wait to see whats next.
