Mg will have a path to Helium 8k s35 yes.
I am so confused with all the names by red. I have no idea what is new or old anymore
Hi Jarred,
Any update on the RedVolt I/O Expander Module?
In your June Update, you said to expect shipments at the end of June. It seems like such a straightforward product compared to sensors and cameras that keep coming out of the oven... But such a necessary piece of kit for anyone looking beyond basic I/0. And it's been in the sore forever as "Coming Soon."
Really hoping you can get these into the pipeline in the next week or two.
Please advise.
Thanks!
M
It would be great if the Helium sensor could do simultanious 8k & 4kUHD. And the ability to shoot the full sensor at 4kUHD & Simultanius HD prores. This would be HUGE!

Ok, but what I don't get is don't you guys want more bitrate and more media options? You're ok with 300mbps at 6K and also at 8K as well? And $3,900 for a 1TB SSD? There are high performance 3rd party SSDs out there that have huge read/write speeds such as the Samsung 850 Pro, writing on 2TB SSDs at 520mbps (for a price tag of less than $1,000).
Doesn't it follow logically that if you want to drastically increase resolution, you should also increase how much information can be written accordingly? As for 3rd party SSDs, I get the closed system thing, and the idea that the RED Mag is more stable and serviceable than say a 2TB Samsung 850 Pro. But I also believe that RED should catch up with the times media wise, make higher performance (in terms of read write speeds) SSD options available, and ramp up bitrate right along with resolution.
There's not enough processing power for that at any reasonable compression. Also, RAW is RAW, there's no scaling in RAW so you'd get around s16mm sensor sized 4K if you choose to shoot 4K instead of 8K.
The current 6k Carbon Weapon can shoot the full sensor at 4kUHD or 6k - not sure if it could do simultaneous 2k ProRes but my guess is yes it can. We have all heard a million times from producers "I don't need 6k" well they are gonna say "I don't need 8k" when the Helium comes out. So why not give us the option to shoot 8k,4K or 2k on the full sensor the Everybody wins!
