  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet #81 arrived!

I'm a plus member on a vimeo, and I believe, it is 5 GB per week, allowed to upload.

You're right that's for upload, what he's talking about is the drop box on the right hand side for people to post files to download for instance. Apparently, there was too much traffic; basically people downloading the file.

Exactly.

I wonder how many people downloaded it.... If you want the r3d file, I could email it to you!

Ok - I am getting a weird artifact in this clip from the .r3d itself.

I noticed it first when I took the clip from RCX to after effects to mess with it and verified that the original has something weird going on

This screengrab is right out of RCX, full resolution at 100%. I blurred the edges so you could focus on the image artifact in the subject's shoulder.

Any ideas what is going on here?

*EDIT*: And I see as I scrub through the clip, that the artifact is stationary and the subject moves through it. It can be observed throughout the whole clip where there is contrast. Attached a frame of the talent's ear

yes i noticed it on vimeo. like a fixed line. it begins on the lamp and go from one shoulder to the other.

Maybe there should be a thread to ask if someone else noticed this artifact with their scarlet.

Im really not getting that line at all in my RCX.

But, I did have a problem with it when put it in Adobe.

Were those Screen grabs from an Adobe program Joe?

**Edit- I see that you saw it in RCX. Weird. I will be posting pics of what I see.

Here is the image from PPro. I don't notice the line in RCX at all.

Here is from RCX

***Edit-- Ive been going through all my clips ive shot, and I can't find any lines present in RCX or PPro that I shot in 2k or 4k. It seems to be only 3k in which the line is present.

Im about to assemble my camera and go do some tests.

Hey Bob. Im on mobile so can't view it yet.

Did you experience the line?

I've played with the clip a bit and don't see the line. I'm thinking perhaps hardware might play a role in this? I'd be curious to see what happens if somebody exports a .tiff of the frame for those who see the line.

It's so weird.

hm... I wonder what it could be.

Any thoughts at all?

I can clearly see the line in your footage in REDCINE-X for 5-10 frames. Shoot more 3K and see if you can repeat the issue.

Which frames are you seeing it in? What is your hardware? Graphics card? What Build of Redcine?

newest version of REDCINE-X on a Mac Pro 4,1 nVidia Quadro 4000 + ATI 5770 with dual 30" Cinema Displays and with two mirrored 42" Plasmas client preview monitors.....

He had a tooth pick silly! :)

We are going back to do more low light tests tonight.

Any helpful information you can throw at us Roberto?

Oh, HAhaha... :)

It might be interesting to test low-light sensitivity by using one tungsten bulb and later one daylight source, gradually bringing a chart + skin tones further and further away from both lights till the image gets buried in noise. I mean, it would be interesting to see if there is much of a difference with Epic from not being able to shoot 24fps with the full 5k sensor... But the difference is bound to be so small that it sounds like an awful amount of work just for that, so never mind. :)

I saw the artifact on a Mac Pro with Nvidia Quadro cards, both in RedCineX build 5 beta, 64 bit. Both in the .r3d, and an exported quicktime prores 444 file, full debayer.

I'm transfering the .r3d to a PC with RCX Pro 5 beta, 64 bit, but on ATI hardware tonight. I'll post results when I download the file. I'll also post a frame range to examine.
