  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

REDRAY Comments

March announcement... Sundance was a "presence" and didnt you remind us all of that Terry?? :)

Hmmm... my understanding from the beginning was a March launch for Odemax, but announcement and more information at Sundance. I am not sure where I would have said anything different from that. Nor do I feel anything else should be expected.

The announcement on their website said that ODEMAX would open for content providers in January and for content consumers in March.

Odemax is doing behind the scene infrastructure testing right now with producers ( content providers ) ... remember they are not RED and normal companies don't blab like we do before stuff is released :)

BTW.. we are trucking along on the REDRAY side, and along the way some of you wil be happy that we have added 2K support as well as H.264 support... Image quality just keeps getting better and better and Rob is almost done with the encoder in RCX.. its going to be a pretty fucking badass system. Its kinda hard to keep track of all the 4K panels that are out there but we have tested on most of them.

Thank you, Jarred!!! Now THAT's what I was hoping to hear. I am all excited again!!! :hurray:

Awesome. So, outside of the RED projector, what screens have you been impressed by?

Very cool. Will you only support MP4 h264 compressed files or also MKV, MOV, etc?

I know H.264 support is going to make some people very happy! Thanks for the update Jarred!

Absolutely will.

Sony 84" and the toshiba 84" are leading in terms of uniformity and contrast.

I hearing rumors of $4000 65" panels, any comments about those.

Toshiba has one for $5000 but its 55", we got one of those a couple weeks ago. You need a special box to ingest 4K though which is kinda bizarre. All the other monitors just pull 4K from the REDRAY via a single HDMI cable.

Strange. Was the special box for that particular model or all the Toshiba's you tested?

Thanks!

Having H264 support is fantastic. Will it play 4K H264? Jarred you guys will provide the encoding specs, right? Any chance of Prores 4K files display, since your relationship with apple seemed to be rekindled with the Meizler module? Will we get .Red encoding in our NLE's?

I am planning to "showcase" 4K here to potential clients and having purchased a quadcopter system for my Gopro 3, would very much like to do a edit with Epic footage and some Go pro 2.7K footage. Obviously the aerials will look softer, but with some sharpening and clever editing should work...

Having 4K prores support would be a dream! (Size doesn't matter for local demo and short stuff, at least for me!)

Sergio, why not use the .RED codec?

It seems that h.265 will be the new standard for 4K internet delivery.

What can .red codec do better than h.265?
