  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Something New....

Too bad that the SSD module and a 256 GB SSD (for 4 hours shooting) cost almost 5000 $. I guess I could buy another Scarlet-F brain for that price.

Would love to see higher capacity CF cards with an affordable price: 32 gb or 64gb.

Scarlet data rates are not RED1 or EPIC's ones and 3rd parties CF or SSD should be compatible. I guess I'll try 3rd parties CF...

So are the CF cards going to be completely replaced by the ssd's or is there still going to be a side CF module for epic/scarlet. If there is will it come with release or further down the road? I was planning on getting one of those so I could use my CF cards but if it won't be available, then I'll just sell my CF cards and get SSD's.

can you mount more than one red mag at once? there was an issue with the red raids where you couldn't use the fw800 to mount more than 1 drive. there won't be any of these issues with the fw 800 or esata on red mags hopefully?

there is a CF SSD adapter that you can use on the new cameras.. and Scarlet will have a CF module available.

if someone makes a faster CF card ever that is bigger we will support it... but I have a feeling CF hit it's limit and CFast will likely replace it.

I agree, and I knew about the adaptor but I thought that might not be ready for release with epic, maybe you were refering to when the SSD module for red one came out it wasn't going to be ready.

Basically, I'm just trying to find out which media/set up I would need to buy to be able to shoot right away. I already have red CF's so that's why I wante to know about the side CF module. Would a better option be to buy the side SSD module and get the adapter? That's what I'm leaning towards or just buying the SSD cards as well. Just deciphering everything ahead of time minus exact prices of course.

So you always starts with a cf on scarlet and then mount the SSD module/adapter on that? or can you take of the CF reader and just run the SSD?

Curran- I think you are thinking of Epic.

For Scarlet- I believe it comes with standard with CF

He was asking about how the SSD / CF adapter works. He never asked which module comes standard.

With a SSD module you can use an adapter to use CF. A CF module can't use an adapter to use SSD.

Someone please help me out here!

Ok I was thinking on how to get SSD on Scarlet. As I understand CF comes standard on Scarlet. Then I wondered if you could get an adapter or module for Scarlet to use it with SSD. Or even better if you could take away the CF and mount a SSD on Scarlet. I try to make a better desctiption next time. Tanks for trying to clear this

Correct.. you can use CF cards in the CF/SSD adapter ( the CF card slides into a SSD " Shell " so it mimics a SSD drive.

You cannot use a SSD mag in a CF module though.

Scarlet comes standard with CF module.. you can swap that for a SSD module at the time of purchase if you pay the difference.

Some bookmark this post!! Everyone take careful note of what Jarred just said.

I am sure there will be many questions about this, and a lot of well-meaning but erroneous assumption and posts going forward where this info will get lost. :mad2:

Put it in my database. ;)

That answered my question! Also thanks to Justin and ours helping me out with this question.
