Resolve users may like to know that my REDlogFilm to REDgamma3 (as well as the original REDgamma and REDgamma2) LUT is now available to purchase for $30 from http://www.antlerpost.com/plugins

The LUT cannot unfortunately convert media rendered with other colour spaces into REDcolor3 (I wish the information needed for me to be able to do that was available) but is very effective for log grading of material rendered from REDCINE-X at REDcolor3/REDlogFilm while seeing the output as REDgamma3.

More information is available in this ReadMe file

Hey Nick,

Have you tested what is the result if you use the LUT as a 3D "Input" LUT in Resolve? Or even as a 3D LUT in a "Track Node"? That way, we will still have the 3D output and Preview for a stock emulation if the end-product is going for film-out.

But stock emulation LUTs normally expect log data as the input, so it would not be appropriate to apply a REDlogFilm to REDgamma LUT before it.

You are right, sir. So, only pllacing it in a track node is the option. So, have you experimented with it, and what is the result? I am very interested.

I just tested it now, and yes it works equally well in the track tab, leaving the other LUT slots free for whatever other LUTs (monitor calibration etc) you need.

Just bought the combo. I am preparing a DCP, so will tests it later. Thanks...!

One idea to stop this dumb Alexa vs epic talk. If somebody could shot a good chart with 16 steps of grayscale and all a (do no know the right word) a " stepped rainbow with an alexa and an epic in a somewhat lab like environment then it would be a no brainer to make a REDlogFilm2AlexaClog lut or even red could do this and next to redlogfilm add...... GermanLog as an option.

All the debate that alexa has more stops and better skintones is as I see it very much so that people do not really know what to do with the raw files, so they tweak it export Redgamma3 and then push it some more... and boom the face colors goes bad in the video color space. REDLogFilm is not far from alexa log but getting it dead on would put an end to the discussion I think.

Bjørn is absolutely right. - especially with the skin tone part.

Yes, Somebody with an alexa, epic and chart please do the shooting part. Then I will make sure the LUT file is uploaded here the very same day as we get the two frames.

If you want to make LUTs to match different cameras, or similar, you can do that with the Light Illusion MatchLigth IMS program.

http://www.lightillusion.com/matchlight.html

This is already being used by a number of clients for exactly this capability.
The two images/sequences do need to be very 'similar' but with some user alignment of the two images/sequences the results are very good.

One well known operation (that can't be named) uses this to match cameras to within very tight levels.

Steve Shaw... Nick Shaw... both in England and both in color management...

Any relation?

I will try to lay my paw's on an Alexa this week and also an F65 if I can. We have Croma Du Monde Charts.

Looks Lab has a solution for $200 per look. They have their own Redlogfilm->CLog 3DL that is applied before the custom look. I thought about purchasing, but I think I'll subscribe to this thread and see what you guys come up with.

Bjorn, thanks for the suggestion and Dave I can't wait to see the results!

Library is hidden now on the latest mac OS so how do you use the below do add luts ?
