  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

REDCINE-X Professional Build 35 Beta

I keep crashing while trying to transcode a large project. Will send log file.

Can't seem to install this one, get to where to insatll and will not accept the internal hardrive. Message : cannot install in this computer.

early macbookpro 2013 i7 8gig ram ? Any ideas?

Cheers
Ian

Ian, What version of Mac OS are you running? How much free space do you have on your system drive?

Might have been covered, but when going full screen video on windows it crashes.

Does this Beta build work with a standard Rocket? My Rocket does not show up in Beta 35RCX. It appears Firmware required to run Beta 35 only available on RRX software. I reinstalled release RCX Pro and all is fine again.

Anyone get this to work with original Rocket?

I've been getting real-time 24 fps playback of 5k R3D. clips at full resolution in RCX without a Rocket since I upgraded my system to a 12-core new Mac Pro (cylinder) with 64 GB ram and dual D700 GPU cards. However, now that I've added a Blackmagic Ultrastudio 4K and a Samsung 4K monitor to the setup, I only get on average 7-9 fps when I turn external monitoring on in RCX, no matter what resolution...even 1/16th! Same footage plays back smoothly when being externally monitored in Resolve, FCPX, Premier, etc. Is anybody else running into this problem?

Running 10.9.5 osx. think it is the problem ?

Thanks
Ian

10.9.5 should be fine. If you could, please send us a copy of your install.log file. If you open up Console.app (found in /Applications/Utilities), scroll down the log list in the left hand side of the app until you see "/var/log". Click the triangle next to it to expand it. Right click on install.log and select "Reveal in Finder". Then attach that to an email to redcinex at red dot com. It should help us figure out why your install is failing.

Thanks.

Edit: Nevermind. I just saw your reply. Glad you got it working!

Daniel,

Yes it does work with the standard rocket, but it requires a firmware and driver upgrade. You can find the latest ROCKET driver here: https://www.red.com/downloads?category=Software&release=beta

Paul,

It does make sense that some slowdown will occur when turning on external monitoring. External monitoring alters the decode pipe as we now have to produce 2 output images rather than one due to the different pixel types required by the monitor out, and the computer screen. Additionally, the scaler kicks in when going to monitor out so that the image output resolution matches that of the monitor out device. For example, if you're configured to output 4K from your Ultrastudio, REDCINE-X will either downscale or upscale the image to 4K before submitting the image to the card for display.

Hi Grant,
When I'm using a Blackmagic Mini Monitor to output a UHD clip as 1080p to a 1080p monitor, I get realtime 24 fps performance at full resolution, even though I'm downscaling from UHD to 1080. But when I use the Blackmagic Ultrastudio 4K, I'm just going UHD to UHD with no up or downscaling processing. Shouldn't this prevent the scaler from kicking in and result in smooth performance?

Paul,

What's the source resolution? In your previous post you said you were monitoring 5K clips. Unless your source resolution is 3840x2160 with the viewer set to Full Debayer, and your monitor resolution is 3840x2160, the scaler will be invoked to match the output resolution of the monitor.

Decklink 4k output seems to broken in this release.
Windows/BM desktopvideo 10.4/Decklink 4k 12G
RCX resolution setting drop down maxs out at 2k / 25fps - should do 4k DCI/25 and UHD/60.

Christopher,

This appears to be an issue with BM DesktopVideo 10.4 on Windows. I tested this with our DeckLink 4K that we have in house. On windows, 2K resolutions above 25fps are being rejected as not supported by the driver. Same goes for all UHD and 4K DCI resolutions. I downloaded the previous DesktopVideo version (10.3.7) and they all worked fine.

There is a secondary issue, too, in that in the 35 Beta build, we're using an older SDK from Blackmagic that doesn't yet support UHD resolutions above 25fps. We'll get that fixed here shortly.

For the time being, I recommend using DesktopVideo 10.3.7 until the issue is resolved in Desktop Video. I'll see if we can get ahold of someone to report the issue.

Thanks for looking into the Decklink problem Grant, I believe the older blackmagic sdk is the problem, EasyDCPplayer+ had the same no 4k output issue, easydcp updated something and now it outputs 4k DCI.

Also looks like HyperThreading is broken with Cuda and OpenCL - only half the cores are in use
Note also in grab how 1 NUMA node is 100%, but the 2nd Numa node has 0 activity.

I'm using EXR, but output format does not seem to matter:

.\redline --i F:\DR21\A001_0313NU.RDM\A001_C005_0101PD.RDC\A001_C005_0101PD_001.R3d -o test --outDir R:\Test --end 500 --format 2 --exrCompression 1 --exrMaxWriters 16 --exrACES 1 --gpuPlatform 2 --cudaDeviceIndexes 0 2 -o test --outDir R:\Test

Any format cuda encode completes, but then crashes, nvidia driver 348.07, opencl does not :

Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: REDline.exe
Fault Module Name: nvcuda.dll
Fault Module Version: 8.17.13.4807
Using R3DSDK version 6.0 build 28C04 dated 20150410

CUDA_COMPUTE_CAPABILITY = 3.5

and lastly 16bit dpx is broken, after 100 frames or so it slows to a crawl and dies. Cuda or OpenCl, 10bit is OK.

I attempted updating to the latest Blackmagic SDK today. It still had the same issue with the DesktopVideo 10.4 driver. No 4k output, and no 2k above 25fps.

Thanks for the report, and we'll take a look.

And it looks like your image link is broken. How many total CPUs and how many total cores are you using?

2cpu, 24cores, 48 logical cores.

If I run two simultaneous redline to exr outputs, one with CPU affinity set to even cores, and one with CPU affinity to odd cores, each assigned to its own Titan, and use --start and --end to have one process the first 500 frames and the second process the next 500 frames, it complete the 1000 frames around 40% faster than running 1000 frames in one redline.

Thanks for looking into it!
