RED Roadmap...

It hasn't disappeared.

Just be patient. I'll admit, I was nervous that it had disappeared, but what Jim said is true. If you're nervous that some how RED is going to drop the ball on the Epic S, then you're not fully committed to them.

They know how important that camera is and how many people want it. Im 100% positive they wouldn't do anything drastic, to people who are investing in their company.

I have hope.

I love what RED does, it makes amazing cameras i use them over others, and love them, but im not so convinced about that mindset as you are.. i cant be committed to brands like that... when there is a product with specs and a release date, theres money in your account and your ready to do business, its time to commit.

i agree with this completely.

Epic for non R1 owners?

Epic for non R1 owners?

I've been following the EPIC evolution since the beginning and was just wondering when the EPIC will be available to non-Red One owners?
I know it's after stage 4. But roughly when would that be. My credit card is so itchy

If this has been answered before somewhere else I apologize for being in the wrong blog, couldn't find the right one anywhere.

Stage 4 is *everyone*, so after stage 3. Or you could buy an EPIC-M today.

Jim, what about Full Frame 35mm 6K+ with 3:2 aspect ratio sensor? I don't see FF 35 on the list?

I'd love to know how RED's lens deveolopment is going and what they have in store in the way of lenses to go with the new cameras.

Jim don't come to Texas. We gots enough fires here....But you could bring as many cameras and other Red products as you wish....Hehehe

Where there's smoke, there's fire! And he isn't just blowin' smoke :) Hang on to your hats, kids. You're in for a wonderful ride!

There has been to little exact information and to many clues - at least in me, this provokes skyhigh curiosity (to many clues for the new philosophy - I like it that way :-)
When watching movies (even though it decreases the enjoyment) I always like to guess what's going to happen next and which part of the movie is importnant for the climax. If you watch any triller or action movie twice, 2nd time you can pickup the slight clues as to who is the bad guy etc...
This Scalet mistery and the slight clues is like a movie to me. With all the clues given I'm starting to form a vision about the climax - might turn up I'm wrong but I enjoy the guessing anyway.
These are not quotes but the clues are:
-Everything but EPIC-X could (will) change for the better
-EPIC-S has been dropped from the roadmap list (no logic to keep this as a mistery unless...)
-F dropped from the Scarlet roadmap (no logic to keep Scarlet details as a mistery unless...)
-a thread with Scarlet speculation is closed ( I see this as a signal that some things would like to be kept as a surprise - if so, than I appologize for this post)

no logic to keep this as a mistery unless - Scarlet and EPIC-S are being somehow merged into a single product that would satisfy both the Scarlet and EPIC-S dreamers.
Scarleteers primarily want to join the RED family. EPIC-Seers want a bigger sensor.
Leads me to conclude Scarlet/EPIC-S (Scarepic) will end up with a S35 sensor. If you have planned to use 2/3 lenses you will be able to use them on the new Scarepic with a windowed sensor with 3K resolution and high fps. Those wanting to use S35 sensor can use film and FF still lenses on 5K resolution. This would also mean that fixed lens is out of the picture.
There are probably a lot of holes in this view but I had to give it a try :-)

After EPIC-X comes Scarlet.

Because everything is a subject to change with RED announcements that means nobody out of RED Headquarters knows in a which kind of "incarnation" will come Scarlet?

Guess: S35mm or 2/3"?

Almost 99% REDUsers were asked for S35mm Scarlet from day one of the announcement.

Actually not so many were impressed with 2/3" Scarlet (regarding to the sensor size).

Soon we should know if RED was listening to a customer or not in this Scarlet case.

Forgot to mention.
I'd be trilled if Scarlet-F is released soon with the last knows specs!

We reserve the right to change everything as needed...

Jim
I like the Roadmap. It gives us, the customers an inkling of what may or may not be in the works, depending on decisions made when a better way or product becomes evident. Gives RED the flexibility to think forward. As products develop, it would be nice if we could get a heads-up about any important changes that may affect how we, as customers, roll. Some sort of balance between not giving away the plan to the competition and letting us know what to plan for.

I like the idea that my camera company "reserves the right to change everything as needed." I know that means your products will be as future-proofed as you can make them.

A frustrated customer making his own ideal product, and finding out that everyone else wanted what he wanted... well, that's success.

Once more, into the breach!
