  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The difference in shooting FF1080P and 3k?

It won't be a RED RAW file

So Chris, is there such a thing as working on a RED RAW file in FCP? If so, what is the proper workflow to do that?

Florida! where in FL? I lived there for 25 years in the Tampa Bay area. (St.Pete & Clearwater)

FCP7 apparently can use the r3d files. I don't know, I haven't used FCP7 yet (still on 6). I'll either just edit with the proxies, or use the Log & Transfer because you can easily change the settings to either Normal, Daylight, Tungsten, etc. and put it out as a quicktime and edit with those.

I live in Fort Lauderdale, nothing's better than living a one min walk from the ocean. :coolgleamA:

Thanks Chris, I'll play around with it a little more.

Fort Lauderdale... I was there once for spring break in the mid 80's :thumbup1:

Russ, FCP can't work directly with r3ds (yet). Color can however. There are a number of different workflows available. Choosing L&T (as you've done) has now converted the r3d (RAW) file to Pro res, so you're no longer in 'red world'. You can send the clip from FCP to Color using the 'send to' function, and in Color reconnect the clip to the r3d, (using apps like Clipfinder) which will give you access to the r3d and thus all the RAW data for full color grading (note the 'RED' tab in the secondaries window).

You should download the free red apps (from red/support RedAlert!; Red Cine; and RedRushes). RedAlert especially will give you a very quick feel for what your can do with r3ds (it's the equivalent of a one-light telecine; or a simple primary grade). The red tab in Color IS the adjustments that appear in RedAlert.

I hope some of this makes sense! Good luck with it all.

James

Thanks, James. Yes, it's starting to make sense the more I play around with it.
