  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED ONE M-X Sensor Upgrade Program

Strange how people are still getting emails to send there REDs...

Incorrect. We have not sent emails to get in more RED ONEs for M-X upgrade in awhile. It would be pretty foolish to ask for more in only to have them wait around before we can process them.

Simply put, way more people than we anticipated took us up on the upgrade from the first few eligible batches. And then we have a mechanical part shortage that compounded the issue. To meet the higher demand (and current backlog), we ramped up production and staffing. We are making our way through this as fast as we can without sacrificing quality along the way.

The good news is that we have made a ton of progress and once we feel we will be able to upgrade within our normal M-X upgrade processing times, we will THEN send out additional emails. This should be relatively soon...

My apologies for these initial delays out of the gate. I can promise you the M-X sensor is entirely worth the wait...

Thanks a lot for the reply. My apologies for the misunderstanding about the upgrade emails, I must have been misinformed. I do believe you are doing everything you can to get it all worked out as fast as you can.

Have you any idea how long it might take? If it's longer then 2 months or something then it's much more interesting for us to get it back for that period. That would cost us less money in renting RED's for the shoots we have in that time.

Thanks again.

Our camera has been over at RED since 10 february.... A friend of ours living close who received his camera's the same day as ours got his back already 2 weeks ago. Strange how people are still getting emails to send there REDs in while we have been waiting for almost 7 weeks now. It has cost us 1000's of euro's in rental and I'm not even getting reply's to my emails anymore when I ask about it. What a bummer. Anyway, nothing I can do I guess. Just hope it will be back soon. Greetings and still loving the RED ONE.

That's a worry. I keep asking this as i never get a reply, but will persist. Why can't RED europe do MX upgrades. It would make a huge difference to European RED owners. Will RED answer this question?...please.?

Jarred did answer your question already earlier in this thread:
not in the near future.. the "operation" takes some unique ( $$ ) tools and we had to actually open up a separate unique facility just to facilitate the upgrade.

I do apologize for the inconvenience to you guys.. but as it has been said in this thread multiple times, the bit of pain is worth it :)

No worries, Ruben.

Our goal was 7-10 business days. But, obviously, for cameras in house (and getting back into customers' hands), it has been longer for the aforementioned reasons. We will get back to that processing time - as soon as we can!

It hurts to wait but feels so good once you get it back - Hang in there guys, meanwhile, if any of you need subrentals, I can help you out

I just worked with Rick and his Red. Everyone was amazed at the performance of the new chip. It holds up to most of the hype.

Those rooftop shots you were getting were unbelievable. You could see details and light values that our obsolete eyeballs couldn't even see. Glad it worked out Michael! Can't wait to see the finished video.

For those who have gotten the upgrade, did RED make mini-vents on the top of the unit for heat to escape?

For those who have gotten the upgrade, did RED make little holes on the top of the unit for heat to escape?

LOL, what do you mean holes?

Physically, the only differences are,

• Mysterium-X is now etched into the side of the camera right below the RED logo
• Bootup screen now has a big X to identify
• The OLPF has less of a red tint that it had before

no holes on top of the camera.. if you saw a camera with holes in the top, i would run as fast as you can away from it :)

Does anyone know how long it will take for Red to work their way up to the 7000's?

Probably before the first EPIC cameras start officially to ship.

I have to say that the MX sensor is sick. It's a real stunner to me to be able to shoot 20 minutes after sunset at ISO 2500 at 50fps(!) and have the clips be usable.
