  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED ONE M-X Sensor Upgrade Program

Ouch - 30 days is a long time if you use your camera on a daily basis or rent it out. That's a lot in terms of lost revenue. When you take that into consideration, the upgrade price is pretty insignificant. I hope RED UK will be able to do the upgrades when mine is being summoned. Does anyone from RED know if and when RED UK will be able to perform the upgrade.

Hi there! can anybody here make a chart comparing a red one & red one M-X, iso, dynamic range, FPS, and other specs? Thanks!!!

best regards,

Felipe

Most every spec is the same for a RED ONE with either the M or M-X sensor except... the M-X has much less noise, which makes for more DR and typically a more useful working range of ISO ratings.

I dont know why numbers much higher than mine are already back.

I ask me with my 222 the same question. Perhaps they are tired about the early adaptors ;-)) First it took weeks until I got a FedExNr, then the camera is out now since more than 23 days and still no hope to get it back soon. A very expensive upgrade indeed, because I use the camera EVERY day ;-( If I knew this I never had upgraded so fast. But on the other hand: Pictures I saw with the new sensor blowed me away, what a great camera!!!

Update: Ok, haven't red Brents Post, that's an explication I can accept, on the other hand it does not explain, why I had to wait this long to get eaven an answer for upgrading, invoice ASO ;-)

You are not alone... our guys are working overtime to get these done. There are no advantages to holding them back for us. The "out of sequence" has been discussed too many times already. It is when the original cameras shipped, not serial number... then it is when we received the cameras from the block announcement and who paid 1st.

We appreciate everyone's patience through this difficult upgrade time. They went pretty quickly in the beginning, then we had supplier issues right in the middle. Most have been cleared now and the elves are as busy as anyone you know...

The CNC problems didn't help. I hope you didn't have problems with the lunar new year and suppliers. This should be a great year for RED. Congratulations on your Oscar and good luck at NAB.

Jim, am I correct in my understanding that part of the "everything is as good or better" proposition the M-X upgrade offers, that in addition to the better DR/lower noise aspect, that you also get the better read-times?

In other words, the sensor/board-stack brings the same ~5ms read/reset times to the Red One that the Epic's will have?

Thanks.

Good to see you here Felipe :)
What I understand so include the new M-X sensor also new OPLF filter, and make resolution improvements. In low light, there are major improvement. In some example frames here on reduser there are more then 4 stops more usable. There are better color handling and a ton of other improvements. ...a taste of Epic :)

Chewie came home today, with the M-X.

BAD ASS

New camera in the same body. Like going into your house but all of your furniture is new and awesome. Or maybe same car (same dents, etc.) but now with v10, new suspension, etc.

just a question, how many upgrades are done in a normal working day? In the 10 to 20 range? or more? Just trying to calculate how long it will be for my number to be up...kind of...in the ball park...

I know that I will have to wait almost 6 to 10 months before having the opportunity to get the upgrade.... :/

In fact, a week after I bought the camera they announced that people would be able to buy it with the upgrade in ... I should have waited, I was quite shocked, surprised ... but anyway let's face this long year before getting the upgrades ... gonna be long ...

I'll handle the wonderfull night videos shot by many of you next year ... :/

Surely not? That seems a little silly. The price would need to be raised for starters. Any idea what serial number the program is up to?

Stop asking the same question over and over again.

It's up to #600, not over and depends on the delivery date. It's like the 500th time this response has been written. - the question is - "when is the next batch going to be called in".

We NEVER announced that people can get new RED ONEs with the M-X sensor. We clearly stated that we would not offer this until all existing RED ONE owners had the opportunity to upgrade their sensors.

#79 is still undergoing the upgrade process and is on its 32nd day at RED.

Please let me remind you (for the um-tenth time) that we are not going by serial numbers.
