Is it true that the red one m-x is presently only capable of displaying out in Raw color space or is the new redspace available. An Ac I know might be spreading FUD (or not) need to know now(ish).
Also for a camera test should we be rating at 800 or 320 for base results. Again, more FUD fighting.
Thanks!
I was suggesting Redcolor, and varying the iso to our two test conditions (high key, low key)
But as the GAFFER of today's test shoot I decided to let the AC and DP figure it out on their own and do the politically correct, safe thing by keeping my mouth shut and just metering the whole thing at 800 (compensating for ND filtration when in of course).
This was the DP's first time using the Red One MX, and the AC's first time with the MX as well. Homeboy should have called the Bomb Squad and asked or something. The DIT was a complete know-nothing (actually called the M-X the "Mysterion" I'm not making this up). The guys they rented the R1-MX from had NO IDEA how the new sensor and build 30 worked at all and didn't help the AC's prep the package correctly, so...whatever.
As to what Richard Darge was saying: this was a camera test, and I wasn't in the driver's seat, just along for the ride and thought I'd hit the forum with my iphone between setups to avoid a complete FAIL for everyone involved.
My conclusion after very carefully monitoring the whole scenario:
Can't wait to get my hands on one of these puppies and shoot something. Very Very excited.
In any case, don't want to say too much more as this is a Real Name forum and I could get myself into some hot water I'm sure. Wicked. Safe. Creative.

Totally, this unnamed AC was saying that someone unnamed person at Red told him you should always set the iso to 800 and then use ND filters to bring exposure down - like an n1.2 in broad daylight, but still rate the sensor at 800. I was like "WTF - that doesn't seem right." Why not rate at 320 (or even lower if you need/want) and then use ND to put your iris where you want it...maybe I'm wrong but this just seemed like a dumb thing to do - like "always rate it 800?" huhhhh???
Jim did say the sensitivity (in engineering terms) of the MX and the M sensors are the same. So if you just care about raw levels, you can rate the two sensors exactly the same.
