  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red Mysterious SKULL

Whatever it is, it's definitely on the side of the body where the Switchblade or Side Handle is.

I thought so too. (See the PWR button comment) but if it is, the whole front fan part is completely different - or none existent.

I am a big, big fan of skulls.

BTW - who isn't? :)

Now where's my pixel skully?

So here are the clues I guess :D

Really interesting Hurcan.. According to what have been said here, i strongly believe that this Skull is about a new "body camera"..
A body as small and light as the "inside camera" (Skull), which would allow our Red to fly more easily. remember the Jarred's post talking about #Newwings..

So Until now, we could upgrade the sensor, and soon we'll probably have the possibility to upgrade the "body"? That does make sense i guess..

<Guess>

I think we are looking at a Red Dragon brain that is facing behind you (to keep a more normal centre of gravity)

With an ribbed jacket that you Wear .. that the Red brain + Extra power source is plugged into.

The Switch blade is replaced with a wireless control base to received wireless audio & Video - with the ability to xmit to a low latency feed.

I speculate the Dragon sensor has been rehoused a smaller lighter gimbal friendly unit that is controlled by the brain - and to held in front of you ......or .... to be flown around RED HQ by 'Red Leader' Jim and Jarred.

This brain will have a memory module which can cope with 2 mins of not being able to connect to the brain ... AND the ability to write 600 fps 6K uncompressed directly to RAM.

For cases where you don't want to depend on wireless ... there is an umbilical cord that connect the Brain to the Detached sensor that ensures no Data is lost in the wireless ether .. and is able to charge the battery of the detached sensor.

... am I close? :)

AJ

What im guessing is similar. So what about a skull that you can upgrade the brain? What im saying is I think there will be a new body (skull) And the sensor(brain) will be upgradable. So the future upgrades will be easier. You will send the sensor only and got the new sensor. Place it in and you have a new upgraded camera. But the W in the logo makes me wonder if all this is about a wireless module.

I'm hoping it's more FPS and it's ready to ship the second they announce. I have a feeling that's REDs new game plan. They have been a lot more tight lipped and I think that will pay off when they announce products.

Seems to be another present for Dragons... start to feel that I need to upgrade to Dragon just to get some presents :tongue_smilie:

This is true. And I also feel it's important to keep it this way these days due to the nature of the rest of the industry at this point.

Which really must be killing Jarred. I know he gets very excited and excited for us when there's cool technological advancements coming to our cameras. He's going to have teeth marks on his mouth by the time NAB rolls around from biting his lip for so long.

A couple of the guys have already ID'd elements of your first photo.

So here are the clues I guess :D

upper left corner most probably reads PWR aka power

No more front fan. :)

Just below the PWR marking is the REC marking. It's the right side of the camera body with something new connected to the side handle slot. It may be integral to this new panel we are also seeing on the front, in place of the fan.

Maybe it is a smaller, lighter gimbal ready Dragon? 5K @ 24fps?

It seems pretty clear that it is a modification for the body we already have. If it replaces the fan, (presumably with a heat sink) it may just be heavier.

edit: Thinking more about this a proper heat sink is epoxied to the heat source, and I doubt any user installable accessory would be in such proximity to delicate components.

What if it were a liquid or chemical coolant block that slides up into the air channel? Yeah, that's crazy right?

If not ready to ship upon announcement then very shortly after. I agree, it's for the best. Not just for us the consumers but also for them. Less questions from us, less complaints, and overall just better vibes going around. Consumers in 2015 don't like waiting for their products...

IF they do somehow find a way to essentially turn our current Dragon into a high speed camera as well...what more can you say? I have gone everywhere looking for a replacement (mostly just because it's hard for me to justify owning a $35,000 camera when filmmaking isn't my main source of income) and there just simply isn't anything that checks off more boxes. I can get good looking 4K for cheap but it won't have the frame rates. I can get a camera with the frame rates but it won't have the DR or the resolution. I can get a camera with the DR but it won't have the codec or the frame rates. Every other camera seems to have that ONE "con" that holds it back. Dragon really doesn't have that issue, it covers so many uses and so many situations.

Add Phantom like frame rates to that package and you can put the nail in the coffin. Best camera around and suddenly it's an incredible deal for what it offers (it's currently a GOOD deal...add the frame rates and it's borderline revolutionary).

Here are some more inspections :D
It looks like a wireless unit that you can hook your focus motors to it. Maybe integrated red link? And maybeee wireless video?

Crazy, so many ideas here on redusers :)

Steven Klein to be a great photographer, why he said to see the future?!?!
He loved the images and the quality of the images, find the right time to be extracted in post ... Maybe changing focus in post production ... (same Lytro)
Or have in front of a module for the Speed high, or we have a new camera sensor with much bigger.

So many thoughts stray,, but until then we can not know !!
C'monnnnn Jarred another small clue :) :)

Keep em coming. Im still at Scarlet and welcome the new tech to be broken into by the time I get to the big boy level of DRAGON ;)

The safest bet is that it is just a more production friendly Redlink. The real mystery is what is happening in the front bottom of the camera and is it part of the same accessory?

two months... :undecided: Oye!
