  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red Mysterious SKULL

Well... the artwork is by Phil Holland and here is the name of the file - phfx_redDragonNAB2015_JarredNewWingTease.jpg

:-)

I am guessing some sort of memory add-on so there is proper burst as some have requested for slo mo with more options for faster rates at higher res... would be nice 400 fps 6K 5 seconds :)

Just as as an FYI this ability is in the current build today. I've shot bursts at 2:1 compression at high framerates for a few seconds, as just one example.

I know you can burst lower compression already but you can't do maximum rates from higher resolutions. ie Dragon 6K at 399 fps. Or Scarlet mx at 4K 120 fps for a few seconds. If you can please let me know :)

Skull : Isn't that Kilgroe's avatar ;-)

+) Upside down ... it looks more like an man wearing an exoskeleton suit.

+) Or what about HUD glasses that allows you to remotely see the what the camera is seeing ... and with a Thumb control to Focus/zoom

+) Or an upgrade that replaced the front Fan of the camera that:
i) Uses a partial tractrix horn loaded (shaped) opening to create a slow impedance change to increase the efficiency of the air being taking in (making the camera virtually silent)
ii) Replaces the analogue audio in with and 802.11ac digital wireless chipset input ... that also enables 1/4 resolution R3D output for a phone (or other) to connect to and provide a remote visual feed.

"Brain inside the Skull" is a pretty good argument I would think. With a super silent fans, and cooling fins on the side (wings). The skull design is also rather Tranformey, so I would go for a ENG camera frame of some kind.

Or some 3D frame, skull with two brains, two eyes, one recorder.

I can 100% confirm that I am not responsible for the design, though my logo is in fact a single skull, "Skully". My logo stems from a painting I did over a year ago and is a bit of a homage to many things skull related :)

It's a rad design though. I've had a hard look at it. There's some nice shapes in there.

Why do I feel like you are trying to give us hints, Phil? More, more! :yesnod:

I think wireless, but I also think some sort of a temperature control for sensor so no more blackshading woes? Or perhaps that's just because its my current peeve with having to do it, and never quite being sure if its done well or not. :banghead:

Occasionally I get wind of things going on and of course I don't say a anything. However, in this case at the moment, I don't know anything.

But, I do have a few ideas :)

While I was thinking about the name scull and what it is for, I think it could be something like a rehousing for the - Attention! - BRAIN.
A brain is in a scull. So it is near to think abut the scull as a new home for it, as a new head for our dragons.
Possibly a new design, hopefully build like a Aaton cat on the shoulder with optimised heat absorption and additional and/or new ergonomic connectors.
What do you think?

That would be pretty interesting.

Essentially, swappable sensor assemblies? Already? That'd be great - then we'd have the digital equivalent of swappable filmstocks even earlier than I imagined.

I'm really glad I booked my hotel room for NAB already. Sounds like there's going to certainly be things I'm going to want to explore.

The "Wings" comment seems like a reference to drone/gimbal use. Those are the things we "fly". Since the piece attaches to the side handle/switchblade mount on the side of the DSMC brain, we can assume it will utilize those connectors, while somehow making the dragon more friendly to drone/gimbal use than they already. Some sort of wireless menu controls other than a Redmote would be helpful, but I'm guessing it does more than that. Also, a skull usually implies that it is surrounding the brain. Maybe there is more to this concept than the module we can see. What other issues do you have when flying? Power? Weight? Wireless monitor? Follow focus? Red is pretty much the king of cinema drone and gimbal work and it would make sense if they did everything they could to retain that reputation. Can't wait to see what they came up with! Or Jarred is fu*king with us and it is something totally different... Why I love red :)
