  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red Mysterious SKULL

Do not understand this obsession with the dead. My goal is to set a new record for longevity so dead or death is anathema to me.

Generally speaking I feel like death iconography generally is a challenge of death more than an embrace. By cloaking yourself in Death's symbolism you're standing up to death and showing it that you don't fear it. So paradoxically skull iconography is about life and your rejection of Death's threats.

Just to keep the wildest speculations going:

Has anybody considered, these are two different parts? It seems most people guess the pictures are from the same piece of hardware.

The upgrade path info doesn't exclude the fact that there could be an announcement of a new brain.
Any new brain upgrade would be for Epic Dragon only. Just like the RED ONE was out of the picture for the Dragon upgrades, the only way to upgrade the MX is to go Dragon first. And just like the M before, the most exclusive camera bodies come first in the upgrade chain - ergo: Carbon Dragons first.

Actually they are occipital bones I think but this is design, and so far as that goes the intent may be to suggest earphones. I dunno. :-)
Earphones are as likely as the W being an upside down M.

I.e Not likely.

Some theories are so stretching they belong on Coast to Coast Am.

The skull emblem looks like something I'd draw up... ;) As of what it means, it seems to be related to Jarred's recent comment about the RED engineers figuring something out. Could be module related or directly related to the cameras we have now, maybe a new camera or upgrade. I'm pretty sure I'll just have to have it and my wallet is going to wince in pain. Again.

I'm thinking it's new module goodness...
He, he, I was going to suggest it might be your new forum icon. ;)

All this skullduggery (pun intended) is demented. We don't need to concentrate on skulls etc, unless we are an anatomist, brain surgery, artist etc.

Anyway, Red engineers figuring out something, how many times have we heard that and it didn't come through yet, even sod single lens fiurmnware 3D, Scarlet. I'm still waiting for a reasonable camera for run and gun doco, news, sports local small production. Not even BM has done much more than squint their eyes at it in their low end cameras.

Their engineers figured out colorscience after most cameras came standard with color correction for decades. The dragon, is like similar performance top end Sony chips of similar era. The frightening thing is that Sony is the sort of company that could give BM access to such chips, just to challenge everybody else for them. As somebody that deals with hitech design years ahead of anything else, the only remarkable thing about Red engineers, is red delivered a good product made by them, and redcode(apparently, but Red won't reveal if it is as remarkable internally as we think).

So maybe this will be the big one, and leap ahead by years.

Their just youngsters Elsie, wait till they get to our age.

Recap:
- Something engineers have "figured out", it's a "whole new level" according to Jarreds FB post
- It gets a fashion photographer excited "I HAVE SEEN THE FUTURE TODAY #RED-CAMERAS @instajarred"
- There's a "W" in a skull
- It's for Dragon only
- It's a upgrade where you'll probably have to send in the brain. CF Dragon will get it first
- Seems to change the design of the existing brain (front fan part, side handle part)
- New interface/connectors/additional module(?)
- New Start/Stop button on a new grip(?)
- "Ooops. ‪#‎thinisin‬ ‪#‎dragonwup‬"
- "Dragon is getting some new Wings. ‪#‎DoIreallyNeedToWaitTillNAB‬? ‪#‎GladIBoughtaDragon‬"

...I feel like a stalker and nerd at the same time :)

I hope it's a super slowmotion upgrade, that's what would get me excited!

Damn Jarred!! You're killing us!!

What i also observe guys is that, on Jarred's Facebook wall, comments suggesting a new camera have a "Like" from the dear Saint chief.. Prepare yourself to welcome a new baby people..

I'm not sure what you guys have heard, but we know that Arri will be announcing 2 NEW camera's within the next few weeks, a Smaller more gimbal friendly AMIRA and the 'CUBE' basically an XT with 4K onboard and 'DRAGON SIZED'

I wonder whether everyone is releasing GIMBAL versions?

Yep (apologies for quoting myself).

EDIT: To clarify, I definitely think the two separate photos are two different objects. I'm not sure the picture below is a single object. It looks like it is but that could also be subterfuge on Jarred's part.

6) A few thoughts on the image below:

a) It looks to be something that's been laid down frontwards, so that we're looking at the bottom. I'm basing this on the silver, BNC-looking connector on the right side. That and the curved outline look very much like the connectors on the 4K Broadcast module. If there is a row of BNCs, it makes the most sense to have them facing towards the back on the right side of the camera, which would mean the unit attaches to the rear of the camera and is laying down. This is, of course, is assuming that what we see in this image is a single unit.

Feels more and more like a burst mode module, burst 1000fps in 3 seconds 6K. That would explain a still photographer "seeing the future". I haven't seen still photographers use Phantom 4K that much, but Red has, since the dawn of Epic, been used by still photographers.

It feels like a trigger, start 3 second loop, stop when done.
