Actually my full frame scans of ASA 400 color negs have lots of noise/grain in them....far more noise than my Canon 5D Mark II at 400 ISO.
And Cine 35mm is about half the size, and about twice the grain of still neg wouldn't you agree?
I see grain at the cinemas all the time with 400 ASA film. However I LOVE film grain... so don't get me wrong, I just would prefer to add it during post.
Give one to Mullen. He's got some free time coming up, and he's always objective.
Anyone up for a "Get David Mullen A New Beta Red For XMas" petition or something?
We are putting together some RED ONE Mysterium-X cameras for upgrade testing and a couple of high profile directors have run them through their paces. The 1st AC had a big smile on his face after seeing the results and gave this quote.
"To me, the new sensor is the biggest leap I've seen RED achieve. We rated the sensor at ISO 500 and did not see any noise in the blacks in low level lighting situations. The image is super clean." Steve Meizler
1st Assistant Camera on Saving Private Ryan, Artificial Intelligence: AI, Ocean's Twelve, War of the Worlds, Ché, The Informant, Social Network, among several others. Steve has been 1st AC on four feature films (and a few commercials) shot on RED...
I expect that we will have more quotes as the cameras get into the hands of a few more pros.

But it comes in rolls ( :
Sounds promising Jim, but i'f we are considering that subjective evaluations are worth quoting, I'd be looking for one from a craft professional with a deep background in video.

Mike... I think you were the one that questioned the veracity of my statement that the purple sun issue was gone with Mysterium-X? And now you want a pro video specialist to evaluate the quality of M-X instead of a trained professional in the movie world? Who exactly did you have in mind?
