  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Steve has spent an awful lot of time with the RED ONE, including his experiences with it before the camera was released... something that very few people have. If he says it's good... I believe it. It may not have curves and charts and numbers to go along with it... but it's good news no matter how you slice it. If the M-X sensor is as described at 500 ASA, it's a full effective stop faster than the 200-250 ASA sweet spot of the first-generation sensor.

Clean at 500 means trustworthy at 1,000-1,250 when it's called for. That's huge.

I'm sure the guys will put it through the proper numbers-intensive tests when the time comes. But that time may not be here yet. For now, it's been making some pretty images... and that's a damn good start.

Trust me when I tell you that M-X is meaningfully better than M.

Jim

I guess this is the appropriate time to use the apparantly hated word "Game changer". If the noise and black levels are what we are imagining it to be, it will be. This so far has been evident in whats been revealed to us (White dog image)

The white dog ( snowflake ) seems like so long ago :) It's amazing how fast the color science and the sensor pixies are improving.. from the Dog, to the Esquire shoot, to where we are now.

Not more than 20 minutes ago another imaging breakthrough was just made by the engineers with the new sensor.... I have a feeling you guys are going to be very happy with what you see.

New ISO is a film killer

New ISO is a film killer

In my view anyway, the increased ISO of the mx sensor will not only kill off 35mm film, it will also hunt down it's family and friends and get them too.

Sounds awesome - I'm sure we'd all love to see some Mysterium vs. Mysterium X comparision shots... Any word on when we'll see some footage?

35 mm is clean at 500asa.

I think you are going to need to be more specific... when you tell everyone what stock you are talking about and if it is indeed totally grain free, you just may bring film back from the dead :)

Scandinavian test crew volunteering here. We have a record of getting possible and impossible problems in our cams  We be honored to test M-X.

..and here is a short inspirational film for a local football club. (Subtitles of your choice) Shot on B21 in 4.5K mode, Tokina 11-16, ZF 28, 50, and 100 mm on Nikon ProLock.

Jim, Jarred, when yo guys make the announcement at the end of the month, please post comparison stills in low light not only of Red One VS Epic X, but also with the Canon´s (7D and 5D Mark II). Yes, these are not in the same ballpark of Red with the codecs, resolution, framerates, but low light is probably the most important aspect for low key shooting for both documentary and film... Looking forward to announcement day!

Jim,
Ship one down South and I'll give you two quotes.

LOL. And one to Australia too, please.

That's great news. I have no doubt Mysterium-X will be a dream come true.

Amazing news!!!

RED ONE Mysterium-X cameras for upgrade testing...

Jim

RED ONE Mysterium-X upgraded is my next obsession...

Good to hear that M-X sensor behaves as a "super clean image @ 500 ISO"...

Give one to Mullen. He's got some free time coming up, and he's always objective.

The Mulen's R1 M-X test is pretty good idea...

You're all assuming David Mullen's doesn't have one already...

And of course this achievement is amazing-- THANK YOU TEAM RED!

A new era of night time cinema is being ushered in, I suppose?
Imagine that: no fake lighting setup to get that subtle night lighting look. Just shoot on location.
If Steve was Ac on Che, he's been with red from the beginning. He would be one to know the improvement.

Release the hounds already!

Release the hounds already!

While I understand that you guys are brilliant and I give you all the credit in the world for the technological achievements you've already accomplished, at some point you gotta let them dawgs hunt. You can get caught up in a never ending improvements cycle and some Canon or Sony secret product comes out and tramples all over your bottom line. Now, I'm not saying let the customers be beta testers like MS or something like that. But, if you have a working product that is significantly improved over previous models and functionally stable... let 'er rip. We are believers in your products and your company(as far as I can tell) and most of us would probably forgive a few necessary tweaks that are always inevitable. Comon man...sell Epics and Scarlets like hotcakes.
