  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

PLAYBACK

haskell_playback.JPG

THANK you RED...the very anticipated playback for EPIC is up and running and VERY stable so far...the new UI is smooth and very sleek to operate. I like that you can mark in and out points to play certain segments, live view histogram, all your typical fast forward/reverse features one would expect including a repeat play. You can still adjust ISO, temp and other settings on the fly during playback.

Anther fantastic feature is the ability to select which clip you want to play back from a pull down menu, this is a time saver. Thumbnail
view would be a bonus if ever added and perhaps a mode to flag for stills which I believe was discussed that it might be coming.

Long time waiting but the troops will be pleased. (for now) Great work RED...EPIC just got better.

The day has come... Alpha Build for Playback on Epic.

Oh Happy Day! My M and X are so happy now! Wonderful programming. Excellent GUI for playback. Took me about ten seconds to figure it out. Looping! Awesome! Thank you so much for your thoughtful design and efforts. It was more than worth the wait. And I'm sure there's more to come...

the 4K is not 16x9 (not the 4khd) so still looking forward to a clean 16x9 out w no black borders. either that or get the industry adopt 2:1, oh, say next week. :)

Some great stuff in the alpha !

- a new assignable function for display toggle (full screen, no menu on LCD/EVF and back to normal without any REDmote / side handle / external display)

- 4K 1.9, 3K 1.9 , 2K 1.9. Those new format are very welcome. Would be fantastic if we could get a bit of look around available when not in high frame rates.

Noticed something that might be a simple display bug in playback :
every clip shot with project set at 25.00 will show has having a project framerate of 24.975 in the playback interface / Meta.
In REDCINE they just show as plain 25... Anyone else has the issue ?
Same with 24 (shows as if project was 23,976), 50 (49.950) and display the same behavior with clips shots on previous builds

Gotta love those frequent FW updates à la RED One... every time it feels like having a new camera... for free :-)

anyone out there....is 2K 16x9 available? psyched about 3K 150...but 2K 16x9 would be dope...

Jay, the 2K has an aspect ratio of 1.9. Just like 5K and the new 4K and 3K are ... Previous 2.41 ratios are now named WS for WideScreen (5K WS and 2K WS @ 300fps)
RED One was offering 2:1 ratios but now they are just around 1.9. But it is very easy to display the 16/9 frame guide and tell REDCINE-X to crop using this same guide.

2K goes up to 240 fps... and up to 160 for 3K.

thanks for the info Mikael.
I still would love to see 2K 16x9, that way I'm not wasting any pixels with the crop. I'm sure it'll be available soon. Once it's available, I can use a super 16 zoom lens to shoot a lot of stuff like sports/motorcycle racing and such and be very mobile...

What a great way to wake up! CONGRATS TEAM RED!

THIS feels like the last MAJOR hurdle... EPIC is now truly EPIC - seriously a MOMENTOUS occasion, I hope your engineers all got super drunk last night!!

RedMote range seems improved

RedMote range seems improved

I haven't done extensive testing yet, but tis build seems to have improved the range and the reliability of the connection to the RedMote.

Is this my imagination? Wishful thinking? Or have the elves at Red come through once again? :)

You can use a Super-16 zoom with 2K now.

The good thing about the new 2K frame size is that it brings the vertical resolution up to 1080. Previously it was only 853.

Fantastic news!!! I can't wait.

If I update to this firmware, will I be able to update my Redmote on my PC? I do not have a Macintosh computer at my house.
