  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

OFFHOLLYWOOD OMOD for Weapon - It's ALIVE!!!!

just the smallest lightest thin module that has DC power(coming out of the bottom right) and hdmi out (port on the top left), no sound, no nothing...maybe even put one of your battery plates on if you wanted to. just to get in the smallest of situations with a b-camera or traveling or personal projects….please!

Don't you think those needs are served with RED's DSMC² BASE EXPANDER? It's crazy thin and very light weight.

I was thinking the same, it already exists

but it has much more then some of us need and cost more then we need, much more, $1800.

if there was a way more basic model, that also put the hdmi on the operator side for an evf or monitor, and power on the assistant side…i think it personally makes sense to make a more affordable simplistic way to just power the camera and get a simple hdmi output.

then given the i/o v-lock expander might not be much more then that price, it would be hard not to go with that.

with yours you can have a way to connect your battery plate (gold or v) if and when you need to.

I don't think that there are tons of folks that ONLY want an HDMI + DC input - not enough IMO to justify an OMOD that is JUST that. With respect to price - I suspect you will see some folks flipping the DSMC² BASE EXPANDER for less than it's $1750 price when the other modules start hitting the streets. But I think you really want the RED i/o v-lock expander.

well, for the raven i know several people, first timers, waiting to see if a simpler cheaper module comes out by someone that let's them just power on the camera and use an evf. mainly this is meant for a B, C, or even D camera doing pickups, or personal projects with no clients, short films, specs, that sort of thing.
its ok, someone will do it. for me it would be a starter module to get things going.

EVF connects right to the RAVEN brain - no module needed. Unless you are wanting use SmallHD SideFinder, etc.
yeah i dont know one raven buyer that plans on buying a $4k evf…we are talking smallhd evfs or 702 monitors, tv logics or maybe even zacuto...

Copy that. Wasn't thinking about pricing. And Mark, I think you might be wrong on this one. I think Raven is entering a new market for red, lots of sole ops. Different than even scarlet...

Yup. Understood.

I just don't think 1 x HDMI plus DC input is enough function/features for what it would cost to do it. Cost isn't just the amount of connectors - there is a certain amount of cost just to interface.

But, for example, one low cost OMOD we think will be very popular for RAVEN market is this -

Pro Audio Board w/2x full size XLRs
1 x HDMI
1 x HDSDI
DC power input
USB power out
2-pin LEMO power out
Serial (CRTL)

direct attach OMOD battery plate w/PTAP (AB/Gold Mount or V-Mount)

or ... direct attach an OMOD Video Transmitter module (Teradek & Paralinx flavors) on the back - no cables - and then attach OMOD battery plate on the back.

The LOWEST COST OMOD we can make is same as above but without pro audio board and no audio input - only the scratch audio from built in mics:

1 x HDMI
1 x HDSDI
DC power input
USB power out
2-pin LEMO power out
Serial (CRTL)

direct attach OMOD battery plate w/PTAP (AB/Gold Mount or V-Mount)

or ... direct attach an OMOD Video Transmitter module (Teradek & Paralinx flavors) on the back - no cables - and then attach OMOD battery plate on the back.

yes! understood by me now.
i personally would go for the one with no audio. any idea of price points?

just curious though, what are you leaving out from the red expander module?
and what do we need usb power out for?

i would say a lot of people, not adding a lot of accessories might have no need for:
USB power out
2-pin LEMO power out
Serial (CRTL)

maybe it makes sense to do an all built in battery component then, like the new raven module that comes with the package, only a hell of a lot cheaper, with no audio and gold mount instead of V.

Lots of low cost accessories, LED lights, etc and charging your phone :) It costs next to nothing and it's built into our power board - so you get it weather you want it or not on every OMOD - same with serial (CRTL)

ha!
the only thing i could see powering off a raven is possible a remote focus if you are using it for steadicam.
we use cable-less led clip on lights for dark situations and i would never waste battery power on my phone!

2 pin lemo and CTRL port is something that will prove useful on every camera...

Having GIG-E on a small module would be a good idea too for underwater as REDVolt Expander might end up being too big for most housings...

Oh man, Mark.... it appears you've been paying attention. This is literally EXACTLY what I've been wishing for. I'm praying the build quality is good, the form factor is reasonable, and the price is within reason. If so, you will be selling an absolute ton of these to those of us coming up from the SLR and 1/3" run and gun camcorder backgrounds.

Agree with Mikael, from what i just double checked it seems during the next weeks there is no way to get into Weapon with GIG-e ? only the DSMC-2 REDVOLT Module that ships 2016 will have it it seems.

...hmm we need some GIG-e Interfacing for when it is on our drone though.... i don't know how good a wifi to AP Solution on the Drone would be.... any ideas of how to get quickly Gig-e?

Mark,

This is it. The Carbon Woven's have begun to ship and people will need to make the module call as soon as their brain ships as the camera without I/O is not commercially viable. I have been given notice of shipment but can only consider the Red Module without OMOD pricing and availability coming from OffHollywood or have I missed it?

Mark, will your doc-oriented OMOD have the option of the internal Ambient sync clock? That's the killer feature for me—no more velcro!

Now if we (as in, the industry) could just agree on a standardized "slot" for wireless mics, I'd be a very happy camper.

We will announce the initial line up of OMODs with pricing before InterBEE - which is November 18th.

We working non-stop around the clock and will present MORE options and MORE functionality than we have revealed so far.

My recommendation (yes I am bias) is to get the Base Expander to hold you over until you can see all module options and prices. You can always flip your Base Expander to a new Raven or Weapon customer on REDUSER when an OMOD is in your hands should you choose one of our options.
