  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

OFFHOLLYWOOD OMOD for Weapon - It's ALIVE!!!!

i dont really even fully understand how this work but I put the deposit down because this seems awesome and nearly everything ive always wanted the epic to do seems to be here.

Mark - I do have a few questions:

Could you explain how the ordering process works? Do I choose which functions I want and each one increases the cost?

Is there any sort of limit to how many things can be added? Are some just there by default?

I didnt see an answer to this question asked earlier (might have missed it) but can things be added later (if for instance I am on a show that is interested in some fuction I dont normally use)?

Any other hints to that wireless video integration you mentioned? ;)

We are going to offer different configurations so that we can hit a few different price points. We are still dialing in exactly what these configurations will be - and what the price points will be - as we are trying to avoid too many different configs - but just for example (this is not 100% locked in yet) :

with or without Ambient ACN timecode module
with or without OMOD Advanced Audio Board
with or without OMOD dual band WiFi + BLE module
with or without cmotion 3-axis lens control

The Ambient ACN timecode module is really the only thing that can be added later easily - since it's a module that slides into a M.2 connector slot on the OMOD Engine. So ... you might be locked into whichever hardware config. you choose. But we will most likely offer a bot more flexibility to the folks in the Early Adopter Program.

With respect to wireless video - the integration is simple: on the back of the OMOD we have our own simple interface that passes power, video and audio signals though some pins/connector.

You can attach a simple AB Gold Mount plate or V-Mount plate for power - OR - you can attach an OMOD Video Transmitter Module - all flavors of Paralinx & Teradek (and some crazy stuff coming around NAB time) - and then attach the battery plate behind that module - no wires. Lean and mean.

I have made a number of attempts to place the deposit on the OH store.
The order is not processing - keeps resetting with a message to "Enter a valid city". Erases the CC info every time...

I know Norwich is not the end of the world (but you can see it from there), what might be going wrong?
Can we get this fixed before the deadline?

Hey Mark, the fact that there is a small battery in the OMOD for epic is really badass. Any chance this could make it into the weapon version? EVERYONE would use this feature.

Jake - we put it in the Epic version because we were forced into the size due to the lemo cable assembly required to interface with the Epic. With WEAPON we don't have challenge - so an integrated, rechargeable hotswap battery with sufficient current would add a fair amount to the size of the OMOD. That said - we have a pretty cool solution in the works that will make you happy :)

I should mention one significant thing that has changed in our design - we are no longer going to support RED's Weapon Battery Modules. There's a few reasons for this - but fundamentally, it adds too much challenge to do it correctly and not have any issues because the RED's Weapon Battery Modules have aux power distribution and the OMOD has it's own aux power distribution, etc.

So, the back of the OMODs will have our own interface to lock down our own swappable battery plates (V-Mount, A/B Gold Mount) - and also allow you to lock on a cable free wireless video module between the OMOD and the battery plate.

I know Stacey Spears is gonna be upset because he really wants REDVOLT XL Battery option for his OMOD - so, I will talk to RED and see if it's okay for us to make a battery plate for the REDVOLT XL battery for OMOD. Don't worry Stacey, I'll sort you out one way or another :)

When and where can I get in line? Super bummed I missed the early-adopter, I just wasn't sure if I was going to make the jump to weapon!

Yeah ... the folks that jumped on the Early Adopter program are gonna be VERY happy they did that.

Before the end of the year - we will unveil the initial lineup of OMODs. We changed the architecture so that we can actually produce more variations of OMODs without a typical per-product process.

So when we come out of the gate - we will come out of the gate with MANY OMOD flavors at the same time - and some LEAN and MEAN variants for RAVEN and the audio stuff we are doing will blow you away.

The fact that EVERY OMOD that works on WEAPON will work on RAVEN is really nuts. And I'm just processing all the implications of that.

When I look at the features and functionality of the HIGHEST PRICE - "balls to wall" OMOD we will be offering - plus the cost of the RAVEN - it's completely insane when compared to other high-end digital cinema cameras from a price vs. over-all features/functions.
 
I have seen the OMOD when visiting Offhollywood this week, and I can just say that what Mark is onto here is super-great and probably one of the smartest collaborations RED has gone into. Maybe the smartest thing RED has done since the early cooperation with Assimilate which made R3D's "just work".

Having someone with tons of everyday on-the-ground production experience tackle the "modules" program and workflow challenges, is... Smart.
And the design and functionality of the the thing will blow your mind.
The OMOD looks like it will make things "just work" and simplify and robustify life on set by a large margin.

Really great stuff! but mark, now lets get something super simple out of you guys for super light weight basics…just the smallest lightest thin module that has DC power(coming out of the bottom right) and hdmi out (port on the top left), no sound, no nothing...maybe even put one of your battery plates on if you wanted to. just to get in the smallest of situations with a b-camera or traveling or personal projects….please!
