  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

OFFHOLLYWOOD HOTLINK + HOT TAP + HOTBOX R/S WIFI for RED DSMC cameras

I just got back from a week shooting in Costa Rica with the Hotlink and Foolcontrol with a iPod touch. It worked fantastic for the most part, used it a lot as the worlds most compact wireless follow focus. I have to say that the Canon lenses aren't always ideal for racking but I was surprised in many incidents how invisible the focus was on shots such as push ins, etc. When traveling light on planes etc. this combo is fantastic. Oh, and doing playback with it is so much easier than with the touch screen.

Mark - yes, with the correct cable it will pass the RUN / STOP functionality of your Bartech (or any other lens control).

HOTBOX does not replace the motor control box of your lens system for PL mount lenses and motors - but it does interface the RUN / STOP functionality from third party lens controllers.

So, with a HOTBOX and a BARTECH - you control FIZ with Bartech - run / stop with Bartech - and at the same time - another AC can change settings and control the camera via FOOLCONTROL.
 
Today our Hotlink is arrived and i have to say THANK YOU!! In combination with Foolcntrol it´s just awesome! Unbelievable great Produkt. It´s a "must have"!

Is it possible to control the camera with just the Hotlink and Foolcontrol combination, so I mean entirely without Red controller devices such as side handle, touch monitor or view finder? This would be great for gimbal use. Thanks!
 
Yes it is very possible.

Just need to use a touch or side handle to set up the serial port control protocol once but then almost everything can be controlled via hotlink only on a 'bare' brain.
 
Anyone knows if I can use Teradek bolts 2-pin lemo power cables with the Hotlink, just to make sure they have same polarity? Thanks.

YES. 100%. You can use Teradek and Paralinx 2-pin LEMO cables - the HOTLINK or HOTBOX is wired with the same polarity as Teradek, Paralinx and RED's Quickplate Module.

If you use a BarTech or LETUS HELIX - you need to use a 2-pin LEMO CROSSOVER cable - we sell those as well - we just haven't updated the store but I'll get on that :)
 
Just waiting on a few cables/parts from Mark, and then I'll put together a little video of the whole setup running with ET WMD FIZ. It's really elegant as hell.
 
I have to say that I am blown away with how awesome the Hotlink + Foolcontrol combo is. Amazing. Totally worth it for anyone thinking about it. I also have to comment that Mark Pederson's customer service (at Offhollywood) is the best I have ever experienced outside of Red and Apple. He really went out of his way to be sure his customers are happy. He answered my emails right away, on a weekend, and helped me fix some kinks in time for an upcoming project. I am so thankful for companies that treat their customers so well and make things happen quickly and efficiently. AAA+++

And you just made my day - which was a tough one - so - when I see a post like this it makes me shrug off the "tough stuff" and focus on the good stuff. Thanks for the kind words. You get a discount on the insane thing I'm trying to pull off for NAB2015 :)

Well thank you again Mark! But now you've got my wheels spinning... what could this "insane thing" be?! Pretty sure this just confirmed that I'll be attending NAB this year, for my first time.

Hotbox is an incredible addition to the Epic. Extremely well designed and built...it has everything you need in one compact little box. Evertime I put it on the Dragon, I just stare at the d-taps and admire. We just received the new ET Dragon body cover and combined with the Hotbox and Switchblade its the perfect rig.
