i just saw the 8x fixed lenses on the 30th thread! release this babes!!!!!
we are talking about any "low budget" project going 3K :cheers2:
cheers

According to Peter, the Fixed Camera's lens alone, should be $10K-$15K. Sounds like no matter what the cost of a Fixed scarlet, we would be getting a steal of a deal. :yesnod:

Jarred or anyone else in the know,

Apologies for belaboring the point but could you comment on whether it would be possible to control a fixed scarlet via remote wire input or whether 3rd partys will be able to make remote controls for the camera. I'm trying to envision how it would best be controlled electronically within an underwater housing. I.E. if it would be possible to have electronic buttons on the exterior of the housing controlling the camera inside.

No worries if not, i'm sure Gates will come up with excellent manually operated through the housing controls to interface with the redmote on the inside.

Just curious, thanks!

Jim mentioned something to the same effect, that the lens alone should cost much more than the entire kit.

Beautiful....
What are the specs?

Does anyone know what the specs are on the lens yet? T1.8? and any image stabilization?

So that probably means we can program two focus points and go back and forth using the ring?

So that means everything cool we think about it you guys are gonna put it there.

There are so many cool things we can do (and will do). The possibilities are mindblowing.

Man that fixed lens looks good! I'm guessing no OLED on this one? Zoom, focus, iris rings?

Focus ring... iris and zoom control are electronic (focus is electronic also if selected). New fly by wire controls.

While I am 100% dedicated to the S35 Scarlet....I just may pick up a 2/3rds fixed to **** around with during the wait for the S35...

Awesome!

Let me dream of a zoom controlled by a bezier curve (y axis focal length, x axis time) with a programmable delay start and reverse loop option. Wishful I know.

Mine is the same for focus. Set points during rehearsal based on position of object in the frame, beziers to set speed of the pulls, then, during the take, just go to point one, point two etc. No more missing marks by actors, grips etc. But, as you say, wishful thinking.

Funny.. I was just thinking about RED becoming "DANGEROUS" tomorrow... possibly.. but today I think that with this thread closing in to an ASTONISHING "ONE MILLION VIEWS" in just few days, it really means that some one more then just a few of us are paying very close attention to what his happening at RED!!

I just can't wait to see this little RED company few years down the road, just hope to see Jim and Jarred stop by my little Villa in Italy and say hi, while bearing gifts from the US of A that will sure make me go

Have been called Fanboy more then once, but if I'm one I think that I have more then one reason to be :) in fact if I wasn't one yet, I might just really become one shortly..

All this information that's coming out...

These new offerings go way beyong being merely numerically superior (fps, resolution, etc.).

You guys are creating a system that is going to be functionally superior. No wonder there have been delays. You guys are really finding clever ways of utilizing cutting edge tech and turning a lot of "what if we..." scenarios into reality.

I suspect when they finally land, we'll be beyond pleased.

this is all very interesting but what I have been thinking a lot about is this

side cf module 500
4x 16GB (64GB) 1400

1900 for 64GB of media which you could shoot constantly with

ssd module 1500
red mag 128 GB ?
scarlet module adapter 300

1800 before the cost of red mag

with the dropping prices of CF cards combined with increased speeds and capacity I am starting to wonder if that wouldn't be a better option.

If the RED mag is equal to 1400 (16GB bundle price) you would have final costs of

SSD option - 3200 for 128GB
CF card option - 3300 for 128GB (8x16GB) and you can dump as you go instead of all at once

1) will CF cards be able to handle the 150 fps burst from scarlet or 120fps sustained (i would guess yes)

2) does the RED run and gun crowd usually prefer CF cards for mobility and quick dumps or something like RED RAM for longer shooting times. What I mean is which one ends up being more important - mobility or longer shooting times?

CF cards no matter how fast they are getting 90MB/s that I have tested and using the 60MB/s on my cameras now, there will always be a Buffering Speed limit...for now.

I think that as in the past, the CF will have a much more limited Speed range when shooting FPS vs. the SSD and or what is coming with the RED Mags, will see, for me the maximum FPS will be an absolute must have as to tell the stories I want to tell, were Cramping very fast scenes with very Slow motion to super slow motion is what I want and need, I trust RED has this handle with the 350 FPS coming soon.

These proposed features, to be sure, sound impressive, but how will the Scarlet-fixed, using electronic zoom/focus/iris, deal with documentary and event work where moment-to-moment events don't allow for pre-programming of the zoom.

It will be very interesting to see how beta testers (doing event and doc work) report back on the electronic zoom. I guess its because for the 8 years that I've been shooting I rarely rely on rocker buttons for zoom. I realize that iris control is often found on the camera body, but I'm referring to split-second responsiveness with zooms. What about split-second quick zooms? I know: consider the non-fixed Scarlet.
