If you check out all boom pole threads, mic stand treads, desk stands most will be 3/8 16..

That I do agree with you... but not on camera.

The majority of shock mounts made specifically for actually mounting shotguns onto cameras have shoes :)

I never understood people mounting large-badass studio shotguns with hardcore mounts to cameras, it just seems like an oxymoron to me... but then again, I am by no means an audio guy. To me, it would be like putting a 5/8" Baby pin up there to mount a 4' kino.

Regardless.. if you use the Epic Top Mount.. there is a nice 3/8 16 threaded hole there for you to use as you may :)

I think this is fine to me. If there both threads then thats a good move.

In regards to Jarred saying no one has noticed something about the render with the gunner and lens combo, here's what I noticed:

In a picture showing an Epic X as near as I can tell, with what appears to be one of Red's upcoming FF electronic lenses, there's.... no mount in the picture!!

Are we looking at a fixed lens Epic?! Or is it something else entirely and the render is just that of the fixed lens Scarlet?

Cheers,

Paul

heh heh good guess Paul but that is way out there... no fixed Epic in the cards.

That is probably what I'll have to do, but I'm just worried that the market will be flooded with Scarlets. If I do run into such a predicament, I'll probably figure something out.

I would have thought the fixed model is more likely to carry its initial cost to potential 2nd hand buyers. Theres always someone new wanting to break into filmmaking with an entry level model, and those guys are usually on a much tighter budget than most. (and hence more willing to go 2nd hand)

We have two Red Ones.

If we go for option two—keep one Red One body and upgrade it to Mysterium-X and then buy an Epic-x, that will cost us $24,000 (19,500 plus $4.500).

I could then sell the second body to offset the cost of the $24,000 but how much is a Red one after this announcement date going to be worth? How can we know? Anybody have any ideas?

Thats a good point, I wonder if the R1 will hold much of its resale value after the Epics launch.

Hi,

Red seem to be valuing cameras at $8,500 for the purpose of STAGE 2, expect less than that when Scarlet S35 hits the shelves.

What means "The 15 bit output delivers dynamic range you have always wished for" ?

Yeah... i just went back and read the cards in the announcement... aside from being hard to read (the text is fairly small on my screen).... 15 bit output?

Just a feedback about this announcement...

I really enjoy to see that all is going well...But I'm a bit disapointed about the Scarlet announcement. Like many other, I m waiting to spent my money toward this jewel, but I've read thre will be an increasement of the price, unclear schedule...Well, more time to save money.

About the Epic program, I really hope that Red won't become an elite thing... As an european, I can say that we are many young directors, as I am, waiting for the little beast called Scarlet...Quite affordable for the right tool, we are ready to paint the whole short film market in Red... But where is it, for what price ? I hope that the Scarlet won't gone with the wind, opposite the Epic.

Just a thought, frightened one...

It's pretty simple. They're using a 15-bit analog to digital converter to accommodate what will likely be greater than 12 stops of dynamic range.

l

Good eyes Paul, should be a Scarlet i think. We can see the zoom on it is a 24-75mm. As the Scarlet had a 2/3 sensor it will be very difficult to have a wide lense if people want to use Canon/Nikon lense. Even if the fixed Scarlet will cost a little more than 3K$ it's a good deal because you don't need to by mini Red prime and with a 24-75mm at f2.8 you can achive a lot of different project.

How to apply for TATTOO?
You don't. Go back and re-read the announcement.

They contact you if they want you to "beta test" the new Epic-X products.

No offense, but given your question, I don't think they'll be contacting you.

Wouldn´t 24-75mm be a long lense for the 2/3... guess it´ll be more like 9-72mm or something :)

I think 24-75 is the conversion for FF sensor. If i use a 2/3 scarlet a don't want to make the conversion of the focal in my head to know the equivalence on a 35mm lense.

The 8x fixed lens (Filter and all) is done btw... and it is quite an incredible piece of kit.

I'll try and take some photos of the assembly next week as it is pretty cool to see.

Neglected!!!

Ha!!

Eventhough I will be buyin a few different models of the next product lines, I do feel the fixed has been somewhat negected of late (I'm sure there are reasons for it, whether it be competition, EPICX time, completion...whatever) I would really like to either see more accurate render of the piece or a photo, a turntable shot (know how you like those!)...Please :D
