1. Jarred has done a masterful job of leading the the RED team on the Weapon project. And the entire team stepped up like never before.

2. I attempted to teach Jarred everything I knew about everything... it took all of about one hour. :-) Apparently he listened... and then magnified every word times ten.

3. The original RED ONE Mysterium footage still looks amazing. Crossing the Line. Ché. Knowing. $17,500 in a then 200+ thousand dollar world... for 1080P.

4. Many forget that The Social Network was shot on a RED ONE Mysterium-X sensor. I haven't. It is a look that many still cannot match to this day.

5. The Amazing Spider Man was shot on prototype EPIC MX cameras. Then... the Hobbit was shot on 96 RED EPIC MX cameras. Prometheus, Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and hundreds of other features were shot on EPIC MX.

6. Enter the Dragon. One of the most significant advancements in the history of cinema cameras. 6K resolution, high frame rates, monster dynamic range and improved color. So many features, commercials, music videos and fashion shoots shot on EPIC Dragon that it is scary. DXO Mark scores the Dragon sensor (101) above every sensor/camera ever made, beating the Nikon D800 (96).

7. Now Weapon. Everything better still. 6K and 8K. 16+ stops. 15 bit color. High frame rates. Smaller. Lighter. No cables. Every accessory option you can imagine. The current Gold Standard in every way.

We have given upgrade paths to our customers because we believe in "Obsolescence Obsolete". From the original RED ONE to Weapon 8k. But let me say this as clearly as possible. These upgrades are an option. They are not mandatory. I think one can use any RED camera from the RED ONE to Weapon and create amazing work. Upgrading is an option... your choice. If the upgrade makes sense for you... perfect. If it is too expensive or not necessary... don't do it. You currently have a worthy tool if you have any RED camera in your hands.

8. Uprezzing not spoken here... please do not believe that uprezzing a 2.8K sensor to 4K in camera is a reasonable option. It isn't. It is as close to fraud as it gets.

9. Dedicated to purpose beyond reason. We are at war with conventional thinking.

10. Apple ProRes is awesome. It is a great editing and sometimes delivery format. But it is NOT an acquisition format. REDCODE RAW is. With Weapon... now you can have both at the same time on the same SSD card with Weapon.

I can't remember having as much fun in my life as with RED. Thanks to all of you that have supported our vision.

It is sort of sad that so many people see the upgrade path as a glass half full; as if their "old" camera becomes worthless. I just stepped up for Dragonizing my Scarlet (haven't even received it back yet) and I feel like the adventure is just beginning. I am as excited as I have been since I ordered my Scarlet years ago. I feel like a young man again!! Thanks for that, Jim. LOL

Thanks for shaking it up boss. Me, I want to get off this crazy ride and make sunglasses ;-)

Thank you Jim.

On point #8 I couldn't agree more.

On point #10 I do think there will be shooters and shoots that some might prefer shooting ProRes only for based on the many shooters I spoke to today. Though it's not so attractive to me as I prefer to capture REDCODE RAW, there are some who will want to shoot 6K and scale down to say 4K at various frame rates if it's possible. Especially now with 3D LUT support.

That said, RED is making a camera that is forward thinking in both format and resolution with 8K Weapon Dragon. VistaVision has always been my favorite format and I appreciate the hard work to create a modern day digital VV cinema camera. Not to mention that it also has the format and resolution relevance that the industry demands. Thank you for making this beast.

Jim and Red Team, first of all, a sincere thank you. You really did change the landscape of digital cinema. As a Red Epic Dragon owner, an independent filmmaker, someone that believed and voted with my wallet, even though on a place where cinema and production was in its infancy and early developments (which meant an investment that meant no financial returns), owning an Epic Dragon (and MX prior update) meant I did my part to revolutionise and push forward the local filmmaking and production scene here.

I just upgraded to Dragon recently. Got my notification in may, June, paid for the upgrade September, and got it running in October. It captured amazing images, some of them will probably be part of the moving picture history of this place. But having it for such short time, specially in a market such as mine, means slow return of investment. Means lower income. It also means not enough money to make the initial deposit, the one that warrants the "NAB Accessories discount". I'm sure many pre NAB, non M or CF Dragon Upgraders are in a similar situation. Can we get an extension of the 5000 USD Accessory credit to, say, end of the year? This would make us get the financing ready and make upgrading to Weapon much, much more viable.

I am sure you guys didn't forget about us. We are the ones that are not in E or the Hollywood headlines. But we are also the ones making cinema or production History throughout the world, with innovative content, pushing RED as something beyond a simple camera brand. Its part of a cinematic, audiovisual movement. Speaking for myself, I'm not asking for more, just a chance to keep it in a way that we can keep growing with you guys. Yes, the Elite doesn't like that the forum lurkers, the "fanboys", the have nots, the ones outside of the system to be able to challenge them in straight lines in a drag race. I know why, and, Red Team, you know it too. They fear that if the have nots can be equal in a straight line, when they get to the twist and turns where skill is required, they will be shown as inferior. The establishment can't have that. The Bloomkamps, the Peter Jackson's of our generation were and are looking at Red as their "brush" to disrupt. Don't make them look elsewhere. Yes, its good to get the High peers recognition. By putting the independents, the have nots, the "rebels" out of range, you will probably get the Red carpet praise you all deserved. But what you have done- empowering me and others- did much, much more then that. I sincerely thank you Jim, Jarred and the rest of the Red gang. Just would like you guys to see the War also from our line of thinking. We want to keep fighting with you, like you did for us!

Jim!!!
Always a pleasure.

At the high end, Weapon seems to alleviate the major criticisms RED holdouts had toward the camera.
Is there even another camera that can shoot both RAW and the highest quality of ProRes simultaneously?
8K Full Frame is crazy to think about but I'm sure the IMAX crowd among many others will snap it up.
It was a good move to put resources into making Weapon.

And yes, I occasionally see original RED ONE footage I shot back in 2008 and am amazed by the quality.

!

That is how it works. The $5000 accessory credit is for all of you that have Dragons before NAB and it is good to use until you are ready to upgrade to Weapon.. whenever that may be. That is one of the reasons why it was " worth it " to upgrade before NAB.

The $5000 accessory credit that is tied to NAB week is just for the new Weapon orders ( not upgrades ) .

Lot of people will be happy to hear that! While the upgrade isn't for me at this time, it's a pretty awesome opportunity for those who can make it work.

I mean seriously, I'm shooting with an Epic Dragon, how freakin awesome is that?

Thanks for the clarification, Jarred! Maybe everyone else got this, but I didn't. This is huge, because it takes the pressure off pulling the upgrade trigger this week, and gives a little more breathing room for financing and camera upgrade needs to converge. Excellent.

I have a feeling you are not the only one... I just clarified that a bit on the post.

Your $5000 accessory credit will remain until you are ready to upgrade to Weapon, and is not limited to NAB week.
