  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Observations...

Definitely... Monochromes have a special place in the lineup and upgrade paths will exist.. just not ready yet.

Thank you for that Jarred. The Dragon Mono, IMHO, is RED's best product ever. Really amazing and very under appreciated. John Merchant's testing demonstrates the amazing tonal range. If anyone has a high profile / high concept project (non-profit or cause a plus) that would fully utilize the power of this wonderful piece of art please PM me. I would donate the use of the Mono pro bono to spread the Mono Gospel ;-)

The monochrome camera has a special place in our heart. We built it for the pure love of the art.... and the very first time it was ever used (by David Fincher and David Devlin) the commercial won a Clio for best "film technique". The images it creates are incredibly special. There is nothing like it.

Agreed. Like most genius - years ahead of its time and general public understanding.

That is how it works. The $5000 accessory credit is for all of you that have Dragons before NAB and it is good to use until you are ready to upgrade to Weapon.. whenever that may be. That is one of the reasons why it was " worth it " to upgrade before NAB.

The $5000 accessory credit that is tied to NAB week is just for the new Weapon orders ( not upgrades ) .

Jarred!!!!!! I love you more than anything
Thanks for keeping us non obselete

Another one that seems to be bugging the guys and gals that maybe you could clarify... is Weapon 6k Magnesium EOL or TBD?

Not EOL. Upgradable to Weapon Carbon 6k / 8k. The 8k Sensor needs the extra processing that the Carbon Weapon provides.

This is super cool.

Question - any chance a pre NAB Dragon owner could apply this $5K credit towards accessories for a NEW Weapon? Ie, a poor man's stage 2? For those that would like to keep their Dragon's as a B-Cam, but still make the plunge to Weapon as A-Cam?

Very cool Jarred. Thanks for the Clarification!

Yes.. but that is only for New Weapons ordered this week. I think that is where the confusion came in.

Fantastic. Looks like this adventure of mine with RED might just continue! Thanks for extending the credit and offering the path. I'm sure a lot of us will come around in due time and with bankroll and make the move.

If it's not too much trouble: Why is it that the Scarlet Dragon to Epic Dragon Upgrade path must be removed by June of this year? I understand the MX phase-out, (as with the Original ONE while it was still available) eventually the window closed, with time to make way for a new line of machines. However, the upgrade path always remained within. Up until later this year, I can take a Scarlet-MX body, and upgrade it to an EPIC-MX. Within that tradition, and relatively sound reasoning, should it not remain the same for Dragon?

Providing the opportunity is an appreciated acknowledgement to your base, regardless.

Lately, everyone (and that's not exclusive to these forums) seems to be so caught up in complaints, without realizing possibilities we could only once hope strive to achieve.

A world where digital technologies existing to render your dreams are a feasible possibility. All I ever grew up with, was over the possibility of once creating a "Hollywood" film, or like imagery. My Idols budgets were in the realm of a lottery, Kevin Smith being the most realistic, and even that was shoestringing with 27K on Black and White Film.

We have the ability to capture sights above ground, with resolutions that are un-paired by current market capabilities. The ability to capture smooth moving shots, within the most jarring of surroundings, and the option of correcting, adjusting, and manipulating the product seamlessly and immediately. Products that cost a fraction, and to say that is generous, against the professional market.

What you should remember is that not only the technology exists, you have the ability to fit yourself within an affordable bracket, and with the time, dedication, and effort, could potentially produce something ground-breaking.

It's the people, places, and motivations that drive us toward what we should believe in. Places like this, and people who saw opportunity, set a new precedent within the industry. Take any of those tools, and you can too.

Even though I may not upgrade, I appreciate that I have the option. No one else offers that. Thanks for the generosity, and for continuing to make great cameras!

Thanks Jarred. This, and the clarification of the magnesium to carbon upgrade were what I needed. Thanks for supporting us.

What was stated before NAB began, when all of this was just conjecture, is that the production lines at RED will switch completely over to Weapon upgrades and production by that time. Thus, the window to get your Dragonized Epic or Scarlet would be finite. My personal guess is that the date may be somewhat "soft" but don't plan anything on just my opinion. :-)

Hey Jarred. This is fantastic news about the $5000 credit. I think that one caught a lot of people off guard with some confusion.

Can you tell us, is there any limitations to what we can use the credit on? For example, can we use the $5000 credit towards mini Mags and media???

thanks again dude 😝

I have a feeling you are not the only one... I just clarified that a bit on the post.

Your $5000 accessory credit will remain until you are ready to upgrade to Weapon, and is not limited to NAB week.
