  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

No. They didn't get Scarlet built before EPIC.

The "lens issue" is a cause of some concern. Also, the fact that they're not saying that Scarlets are being manufactured leads me to believe that there is something that maybe prevents concurrent production of Scarlet & EPIC? Are they using the same facility maybe?

This is such a funny situation we find ourselves in. We want news, but at the same time...we don't. This is just such an unusual way to announce and produce a camera.

Yeah it is. I mean I understand secrecy but it gets frustrating as a consumer. Obviously they're going to put the epic out first, but it's hard for those waiting for the Scarlet as we sit here hearing minimal news. And obviously they don't want anyone to mess up there release strategy by beating them to the punch because they gave out to much info. But I know two friends of mine who have been waiting for the scarlet as I am, just got AF-100's. Two others seriously considering to get the F3. This is in the action sports field. RED could obviously dominate this industry with a camera like the Scarlet or Epic S, hollywood is priority, but the guys I know buy a camera and shoot it until it is useless. They don't sell it half way through a season to upgrade. The money just isn't there. If RED is smart, they'll look at it like I presume Canon is with there release apparently in October. Sports start kicking in full gear around that time! There is a big market in all aspects to be had from Skiing, Surfing, Skate, Snowboarding and even Biking to be had around this time. I'm not using Canon as competition, but more from the photo stand point. Putting Cameras out when Sports are getting into high gear is great! And i'm talking Pro Sports as well.

I know it's not many people but when 4 people I know have jumped ship, say out of a group of 10, you've already lost 40%, and more could follow suit if the time gets even more pushed out. Obviously they're stretched thin and working hard, I'm just surprised they're not reporting more or atleast taking deposits to lock people in on it and get the sale guaranteeing an eventual ship of the product even if it is evolving and changing. Someone start the Obviously counter for me :)

I'm going to agree with you. The Scarlet is not only for indie filmmakers, it can be used in many different ways including sports. Also I would be more then happy putting a deposit down now, even if we don't see it out for another 6 or 8 months, assuming the price is still right.
 
From what we have herd over the years, scarlet and epic are separate development programs that run simultaneously but do rely on one another (scarlet relies on epic's software). Last we saw was a lineup of like 12 scarlets that Jarred posted so who knows what they are doing. to be honest things have gotten quiet recently so who knows, but things have gone quiet so lets calm down and not jump to any conclusions.

Honestly we are not picking wives here we are picking tools, and if a more cost effective tool becomes available for you, buy it. Stop worrying about red they will take care of themselves, this whole jump ship thing is crazy. You buy what you like and want, no reason to get so upset that Red might get outspec'ed (it hasn't) or beaten by a half decent camera that is available. If you need a camera now the best advice has always been to not wait for one and just get it, this is assuming you have paying jobs. So go out and buy a camera if you need it, but most likely when the scarlet is released those same people will be smart and if they need it, will sell their camera buy a scarlet (or epic) and begin paying that back.

It will come when it comes, it will cost what it costs, and we will either buy it or not, not that hard, and not that far away so lets try and remain patient.

I just think a definitive update is in order. Either the lens part has a delivery date or it doesn't. If it doesn't, Scarlet could take another year or longer.. Who knows? If it's out of Reds hands it could be three years.. I'm just sayin..

But but but...that was 5 DAYS ago! It's full time panic mode over here. There are Epic updates every 2 days! (don't forget your sarcasm meter)

In all honesty though man I can't wait for the 29th to come and pass.

Yeah really these forums are going to get pretty empty in the next month or so.

Which is a good so we can finally be heard and hopefully I won't feeling like I'm talking to a wall anymore. :emote_headwall:

Your not alone in that, I'm pretty sure we'll still have plenty of Epic talk going on as the Epic S will be gearing up after as well. I know it's something I'm highly considering as a second purchase.

If you look at the Canon mount thread though he said he got enough emails to finally make a thread to answering the questions. Maybe we bombard them with emails? (kidding please don't do this) The 29th is close enough for me. Hopefully we get some kind of news on or within a day or two of that large day in history :)
 
I honestly just cant wait to see all the specs for the scarlet listed on the products page. It has been listed for epic for a long time, but that coming soon under the scarlet is starting to get to me. I cant wait to learn what all the final specs will be!

Me as well. I sneak over there every blue moon to see if it's changed. I might be crazy but at one point I thought you could look at the specs on it. Could've been a couple years ago.

I used to as well, but I found coming here kept me a little more calm. My reaction going to ScarletUser and seeing little sign of life, and to RED's site...little signs of life outside the Epic Program a little disheartening. So I choose to go where I can stay more upbeat about it.
 
Hope there will be a Scarlet owner tab also. Would be fun to se everybodys faces with a big smile!
 
Don't drive yourselves crazy. Scarlet is on deck. Try to appreciate all the accessories coming into the store every couple of days that will work on Scarlet also. Do what you have to to make a living but they said Epic X was top priority the next couple of weeks. Then Scarlet Fixed. This is a distinct case of It's All Good!

would be cool if we were surprised with a 4k 2/3rds cam.. Wasn't the Canon "hairdryer" proposed as an 8mp 2/3rds sensor? There's a ton of tiny sensor point and shoots that capture 10mp and above, is it too far fetched to think Scarlets 2/3rds couldn't surpass 5mp on the same sensor real estate?..
