  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Scarlet Footage?

would be cool if we were surprised with a 4k 2/3rds cam.. Wasn't the Canon "hairdryer" proposed as an 8mp 2/3rds sensor? There's a ton of tiny sensor point and shoots that capture 10mp and above, is it too far fetched to think Scarlets 2/3rds couldn't surpass 5mp on the same sensor real estate?..

This would make my choice of camera VERY easy. Right now I'm standing between the 2/3 Interchangable and the Epic-S, but high prices and 'low-resolution' seems to pull in each direction.

That was epic Ryan! Hopefully we're closer. The "Changes" thread seemed to hint at something coming soon, hopefully other than the Epic! Not to mention it just dissipated into thin air on the internet.

I know, I went to bed and it hoping I'd wake up to the smell of smoke with the Recon thread on fire.. Has the tsunami been downgraded to a high surf advisory? Either way, let's go surfing!

I don't mind the teases, they're fun, but man when people are already patient and sitting on the edge of their seats, a little news is always good. A film company does that in Action Sports where they hype it and they get everyone scouring there website because it's "hidden" and sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't. Good marketing technique, get your site stats up, and the board seems to have alot of activity today. Good way to get people to stop in and go, I wonder whats happening.

Starts to wear down on some that have been waiting all 3 years I bet.

Agreed, I hope we have something more tangible delivered to us soon. Hopefully there are 1000's of Scarlets sitting in boxes ready to GO!

Speaking of Epic -S. What was the price and feature differences to Scarlet or X?

To keep it simple and not include too much speculation:

Epic-S is the "little brother" of Epic-X, now. It has the same sensor, but slightly less powerful electronics. So still 5K, but roughly 50% of the framerate capability at a reduced REDCODE rate.

Scarlets are both 2/3" 3K cameras.

Those are the basics...and even those may have changed!

I think we can relax till the next year;

again
Yeah the less we hear the more that way it seems. I'm still hopeful they drop some news this week as they're apparently sending Epic's out the door starting today, or atleast this week. If we hit October with no news I'm probably going to have to look elsewhere.

I'm not sure what to think. RED clearly said there will be no more reports coming, they'll be silent until production and shipping begins. So i don't expect status-reports and i try to not interpret it as a bad sign when we hear nothing. But yeah, at one point it can get a bit frustrating without any news. ;)

RED said that they're "optimistic" about EPIC-X hitting full scale production at the end of August and shipping the first two weeks of September. As I understand it, once that happens, Scarlet will begin production and shipping (since the only word we've really gotten is that Scarlet is coming soon after EPIC-X). No matter how people spin it, based on current trends and delays, I don't see Scarlet shipping until spring 2012.

Of course, Epic-X production has now officially begun. The first expected ship dates are this week.

Now, I doubt that means we'll be hearing late Friday or early Monday everything we want to know about Scarlet. But RED is moving quickly these days, so news is definitely on the horizon.
