RELEASED: RED FCS3 INSTALLER (v20.0.0)

Awesome! Support for build 20 color science in Color! This will save me a lot of time.

Thank you Red team for getting the FCP installer out the door so soon after the release of FCP 3.

I'm still wondering if full debayer transcodes resized to 2K/1080 are possible. But I guess I'll have to check when do some testing on my own. Exciting stuff.

You're welcome. Actually, sorry we were a couple days behind the FCS 3 release. Not sure what you're asking on the 2K/1080 question but will try to answer anyway :)

native 2K -> ingests at 2K
native 3K -> ingests at 3K (I need to verify this)
native 4K -> ingests at 2K

Craig

compatibility with FCS 3 mainly. We've still got to tie in some of the color processing metadata (color curve, iso, and a few others) that didn't make it into this release due to various timing constraints. That stuff will come soon.

The L&T plugin will only install with FCS 3 (Final Cut Pro 7) -- the quicktime
codec is still compatible with older versions of FCS but will have to be downloaded and installed separately.

Craig

Can the Red Team confirm if either Color renders out with full debayer quality at 4K and/or 2K, and if the L&T supports full debayer? Is this what the "max" button does, toggle full and half debayer, or is this some other bias control?

Edit-> Also, what is the projected lead time before FCP and Color become RedRocket enabled applications?

Did I read that right? I've been reading about the updates in FCP and I understood it still used the .mov proxies? Can we now bring the R3D in directly?

use L&T in FCP to ingest a clip in native (quicktime wrapped R3D) format,
drop on a timeline, send the sequence to color, apply color
settings in color's red room, render, send back to FCP...all supported.

Craig

Color still says "cancelled" if i try to render "full resolution" ??? No matter if i set the sequence to 2K or 4K res. "Half resolution" works fine.

Got a full 4k Apple ProRes 4444 to render out at Render Proxy set to Full Resolution with the new RED FCS3 plugin.

I got it now, i first had to install the FCP Plugin and than the Red Qicktime Codec.
Works now. It´s amazing to see a videofile playing over 2 x 24" Monitors and still see about 1/2 of whats there ;)

For anyone having trouble with new FCP Studio and/or RED FCP plugin, I suggest doing a fresh install of your entire system if possible. That means backing up existing one with something like Carbon Copy so you have a bootable drive in case things don't work out so well with the new system. Then wipe your drive clean and do a brand new install of the OS, do the necessary updates, install new FCP, and then all of the RED Apps. Make sure to then check on the compatibility of all 3rd party plugins and install only ones that are in fact compatible. Test the new system for any bugs. Also make sure you check with AJA, Black Magic about any potential issues with their cards.

I have found in the past that installing these new versions of software like FCP can sometimes be unstable if you just add them to an existing system. Better to start fresh, although it is a time commitment to do so.

A lot of this is common knowledge, but just wanted to throw it out there for anyone who might be experiencing difficulties with the new FCP.

Bumping... can anyone confirm this or clarify?

FYI AJA IoHD drivers and NOT yet compatible with FCS3-- spoke to AJA this afternoon to confirm. Jim at AJA thought they'd have an update out in a few weeks. Kona update is available now however.

Glad you mentioned this.....I wouldn't have thought about it.
I guess I should wait on AJA before I do the upgrade.

I'm missing something. How do I download the old version of final cut installer for FCS 2? the earlier verion that supports build 17. Right now the only ones I see listed are one for FCS3 up to build 20, which will not install on my FCS2, and version one, which only supports through build 16. I can't click on version history to see other downloads. I must be missing the link.

I went ahead and loaded FCP Studio 3 and the Aja HDIO box hasn't skipped a beat. They said that they were coming out with new software but I can't seem to find any troubles with the AJA.

REDCODE plugin for Color v2.9 and not v3.0 ?

REDCODE plugin for Color v2.9 and not v3.0 ?

The latest version of the RED FINAL CUT STUDIO INSTALLER (v20.0.0) has been posted on www.red.com/support .

SUMMARY: Provides native REDCODE media (R3D) support for Final Cut Pro and Color. Includes: RED QuickTime Codec (v3.7.0), Log and Transfer (v2.0.0), REDCODE plugin for Color (v3.0), and Final Cut Studio RED workflow whitepaper.

Note: Supports RED ONE cameras up through Build 20.

Thanks, BC

Just to be sure ... red.com/support states REDCODE plugin for Color (v2.9) and not 'REDCODE plugin for Color (v3.0)'.

Once loaded in Color is says it's 2.9 and not 3.0 ... typo above ?

I think that was their intention, but actually shipped with 2.9. RED said it will be updated not so far future.

Very excited about the new release, installing it now!

Is there a new FCS Whitepaper for this? Or is it the same exact processes as for Studio 2?

Anyone know where it can be downloaded? I don't see it under the Support tab on Red.com...

Hey Guys,

Wanted to see if you have had this issue in Color 1.5/ I import a REDCODE file into FCP. Edit the Native file, send to Color, Color grade, render out Prores 422 HQ, send back to FCP but the color is not the same as I saw in Color.

My calibrated broadcast monitor is just not seeing the same images program to program. I rendered in ALL the quicktime codecs, DPX, Floating Point, etc. I'm lost. Is this a bug you guys have come into? I tried RED footage shot on Build 17 and Build 20.

Any ideas?
